Eldridge, Memoirs of Deceased Wives of Preachers, Journal and Yearbook of the Erie Conference, 1917, pages 135-136 MRS. PLATT W. SCOFIELD. Jane Walradt Scofield was born at Cherry Valley, N. Y., February 20th, 1837, and died at Jamestown, N. Y., August 5th, 1916. When a child, with her parents she came to Watts Flats, N. Y., to make their home, living here until she married Platt Wheeler Scofield, December 29th, 1853. Three children were born to them: Henry Alanson Scofield, who died at the age of thirteen years; Minnie Jane Widrig, and Mary Kate Peterson, who live to mourn her loss. For a few years she lived on a farm near Panama, N. Y., moving later to a home at Blockville, N. Y. When Mr. Scofield received his call to the Ministry, as a true helpmate she was ever at his side to encourage and help him in the many charges he filled. Among these were Rimersburg, Pa., Corsica, Pa., Petroleum Center, Pa., Ellington, N. Y., Pleasantville, Pa., Petrolia, Pa., St. Petersburg, Pa., Brookville, Pa., and Forestville, N. Y., where Rev. Scofield died, June 21st, 1889. She then took her two daughters and moved to Jamestown, N. Y., where she made her home. The last few years of her life she made her home with Mrs. Peterson, where she was through the ten weeks of her last illness. Her summers were spent at the Assembly at Chautauqua, N. Y., where they had owned a house since Camp Meeting days. Mrs. Scofield was of a retiring nature, but was dearly loved by those who came to know her well. Though many trials came to her through life, she met each one with a brave and cheerful fortitude, knowing that her dear Master did all things well. Her faith never failed. Under the severest tests she picked up the loosened threads and with trust in God pressed on until called to meet her loved ones on the other side. While her going has left aching hearts, and is a great loss to those left, we know their loss is her gain, and that she is only waiting for them to come to her.
