The submittor has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ************************************************************************ Mrs. Jessie Knott McNITT of 106 North Borad St., former teacher and a retired business woman, died early this morning at the Chenango Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past year. Born in Oxford, she was the daughter of L. Augustus and Rose Weeden Knott. On September 4, 1901, in St. Paul's Epicopal Church at Oxford she married Charles C. McNITT, who died May 13, 1943. The only survivor is a cousin, Mrs. Herbert Smith of Norwich. Mrs. McNitt was educated at the Oxford Academy and at Oneonta Normal. For several years she taught school in Smyrna and in Oxford. For many years following her marriage she was associated with her husband in the insurance business under the firm name of McNitt Insurance Agency. She continued in business for a few years after his death. She was a communicant of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, a member of the church. She was a member of the Captain John Harris Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, affliating in 1917. She served the chapter as regent and registrar and had served as state chairman for conservation. She was a member of the Women's Auxillary of Chenango Memorial Hospital and was a former member of the Board of Directors at the Hospital. She was a former member and treasurer of the executive committee of the Junior Red Cross; a member of the Ladies Village Improvement Association, taking a great deal of interest in the betterment and improvement of the city. Mrs. McNitt was a charter member of the Norwich Garden Club and a member of the Chenango County Historical Society. She was a member of the Republican County committee and had represented Ward 4 for many years. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Rev. William D. Richardson, rector, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the Devine Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon from 2 to 4 and tomorrow night from 7 to 9 P.M.
