Bradford County } On this 28th day of July AD 1832 personally appeared in open court before the Judges of the Orphans Court of Bradford County, being a court of record now sitting , William Elliott a resident of Bronck Township in the county of Bradford , State of Pennsylvania, aged eighty years, who first being duly sworn according to law , doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7, 1832. That he enlisted in the service of the United States in the year 1775 for the term of during the war as an artificer or furnace man at Ancram in the State of New York, and was employed as such in the Ancram Furnace, with exception herein stated, til the year 1781, when he was discharged. The said furnace belonged to Robert Livingston, but was in the use & occupancy of the United States, & said Robert was appointed the manager of the same. In the Spring of 1777, in May, he entered the military service of the United States in the Company commanded by Capt. Hendrick Pulver in the Regiment of Col. Henry Livingston and served in the same until the end of the Revolution, following which he was discharged. He immediately returned to the said Ancram Furnace & to his employment in the same. He was a resident of Ancram when he returned. On entering military service as aforesaid he was marched from Ancram to Skanesborough where he was joined to the main army under Generals Schuyler & Lincoln who were there under attack. The Army continued to retreat from Skanesborough to Fort Edward and then to Half Moon Point at the junction of the Hudson & Mohawk Rivers. The Army marched from Half Moon Point to Saratoga where Burgoyne surrendered. He was at the Battle at Saratoga, at the taking or surrender of Burgoyne. He has no written discharge from his service as a furnace man. But he with the others of the furnace men who were engaged with him in said military service had a general written discharge, but that now is not now in his possession, having as he believes been long since lost or destroyed. He has no documentary evidence and he knows of no person whose testimony he can produce who can testify to his service. He hereby relinquishes every claim to pension except for the present application.
