Sherwood Marquette, **** Madam: I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension Claim, W.26188, it appears that Jacob Kline was born January 1, 1760, at Nine Partners, Dutchess County, New York. While a Resident of Taghkanic, New York, he enlisted in May 1778 and served one month as a private in Captain Ten Broeck's New York Company. He enlisted October 1, 1778, and served one month in Captain Coonrad Kline's (his uncle) New York Company. He enlisted May 1, 1779, and served 6 months as a private in Captain Jacob Kline's (his father) New York Company. He was allowed pension on his application executed May 31, 1833, while a resident of Egremont, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He died at that place August 20, 1841. The name of his first wife is not stated. He married October 4, 1814, at Hillsdale; Columbia County, New York, Lucy Weed. She was allowed pension on her application, Executed November 2, 1853, while a resident of Egremont, Massachusetts. She died Sept 20, 1882, aged 100 years and 16 days. Their children were: Mark Born September 19, 1815, residing in Egremont in 1855. George " November 17, 1818, residing in Egremont in 1855. Lucius " July 30, 1820, not living in 1855. Lucy " July 28, 1823, not living in 1855. Respectfully, Commissioner. ____________________________________________________________ (Note: Jacob Kline served in Col. Livingston's 10th Albany Militia Regiment. Although the original documents in this file are extremely difficult to read, they are in conformity with the statements made by the Pension Commissioner in the retained copy of the above letter in the National Archives.
