I John Keeney of the City of Hudson in the County of Columbia and the State of New York, Blacksmith, being weak in body of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say, first I direct tht all my legal debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon as conveniently be after my decease. And as to all the rest, residue and remainder of my Estate, both real and personal I do deise and bequeath the same to my beloved wife Elizabeth during her natural life, if she shall remain so lon unmarried and my widow. And at her death I give, devise and bequeath the same to my son Benjamin Marc (?)Keeney (several words illegible) forever. And in case of his (more illegible) devise and bequeath two thirds of my said estate to my said son, his heirs and assigns forever immediately upon the happening of said event and the other third part to my said wife during her natural life and at her death to my said son, his heirs and assigns as aforesaid. And I do hereby authorize and empower my Executors and Exeutrix herein after named to sell and convey to any person or persons with whom they may contract for the same, all or any part of my reale Estate in fee simple and to apply the monies arising therefrom to the payment of my debts as far as may be necessary for that purpose and the ballanse, if any, to the use of my said wife and son conformably to the provisions herein before contained. And it is my particular request that the strictest attention may be paid to the Education of my said son, so that he may hereafter be an ornament to society. And I do appoint my friends Ashbel Stoddard of the City of Hudson aforesaid Printer and Richard Bollis of the same place and (?) Executors and my said Wife Elizabeth Executrix of this my will. And I do hereby revoke all further and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my last will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto sent my hand and seal this thirty first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine. Hosmers Esquire of the City of Hudson in the County of Columbia personally appeared before me and being duly sworn deponth and siath that he saw John Keeney sing and seal the above instrument pruport to be his last Will and Testament, that at the time of the Execution thereof, the said John Keeney was of sound mind and memory according to the best of the knowledge and belief of this deponent. And that George Keeney, Richard Bolles and this deponent severely subscribed their names as Witnesses to the said Will in the presence of the Testator and in the presence of each other. MVBuren Be it remembered that on the said twenty eighth day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and nine aforesaid Ashbel Stoddard and Richard Bollis Executors in the said will named and Elizabeth Keeney, Executrix personally appeared before me Martin Van Buren Surrogate of the County of Columbia aforesaid and were duly qualified to the do performance and execution of the said Will by taking the oath by law appointed. To all whom these presents shall come or may concern send Greeting:- Know ye that at Hudson of the County of Columbia the day of the date hereof before Martin Van Buren Esquire Surrogate of Said County the last Will and Testament of John Keeney deceased, (a Copy whereof is hereunto annexed), was proven and is now approved and allowed of by us, and the said deceased having whilst he lived and at the time of his Death, goods, chattels or credits within this state, by means whereof the proving and registering this said Will and the granting administration of all and singular the goods, chattles and credits and also the (?) allowing and final discharging the account thereof doth belong unto us; the administration of all singular the goods, chattles and credits of the said deceased and any concerning his will is granted unto Elizabeth Keeney executrix and Ashbel Stoddard and Richard Bolles Executors in the said will named, they being first duly sworn will faithfully to administer the same and to make and exhibit a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the said goods, chattles and credits and also to render a just and true account thereof when thereunto required.
