Certification sent Nov. 7 1821 to Joshua Ballard? Cortland Village, NY State of New York Cortland County I David Coy of the town of Homer in the County of Cortland and state of New York being duly sworn in pursuance of the Act of Congress of the United States of America having date March eighteenth eighteen hundred eighteen make oath and say that I the said David Coy was regularly? enlisted in the Revolutionary Army of the United States on or about the middle of July in the year one thousand seven hundred & seventy seven in the town of Danbury located and situated in the state of Connecticut by Captain Beniah Bills whose regiment was commanded by Colonel Zachariah? Huntington that I remained with same Captain Bills in the same regiment about two and a half months then I was transferred into Captain Elisha Ely's company of Colonel Return J. Meigs regiment under whose command I remained until I served out my term for a three year enlisment. That I was discharged at Robert James fort below West Point on the east side of the North? River in the month of July in the year one thousand seven hundred and eighty during which time I remained a regular soldier in the army of the United Statesunder the command of the officers aforenamed - the Connecticut line. That I again enlisted in the spring following in the year one thousand seven hundred eighty one in ? in Windham County & state of Connecticut for & during the war by a coloniel of the name I think of ? Thomas and mustered? by General Douglas and first under the command and in the company of one Captain Allen belonging to Colonel Samuel B. Debbs regiment of infantry where I continued in the army under the command of the officers aforesaid until about a month previous to the close of the war when I was taken sick and went home to my family on a furlough from Col. Debbs aforesaid and while I was at home the regiment was disbanded and I was never discharged ? by writing under the hand of the aforesaid officers and that I served during all the time aforesaid in the Connecticut line of United States troops? And I further say & make oath that I have the said David am in reduced circumstances and need the assitance fo my country for any support that I am very poor & unable to support myself & family and that I never have claimed any pension from the government & hereby relinquish such? fomer claim to any such pension. And further that the whole tiem I served my country in the Revolutionary service was more than six years & further say not. Justice of Cortland Common Pleas State of New York State of New York Cortland County On the twelfth day of September one thousand eight hundred and twenty personally appeared in open court to wit in the Court of Common Pleas held at Homer in sd County it being a court of record for sd county David Coy aged fifty nine years last April residentin Homer in sd county who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare that he served in the revolutionary war. That he the sd David enlisted for three years in the month of January 1778 in the state of Connecticut in Capt. Elisha Ealy's company of foot in the regiment commanded by Jonathan Meigs in the Connecticut line on the continental establishment that he served in the sd corps until he was discharged from the sd service at Robertsons farms one mile below West Point in the state of New York about the first of January 1782 and about three months after he was discharged he enlisted for during the war and served until the close of the war and the date of his original discharge was on the seventeenth day of April one thousand eight hundred and eighteen and received a pension and that the number of his pension certificate is 7591 and I do solemnly swear I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on the 28th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereunto annexed and by me subscribed. Schedule of all the estate and income of David Coy owned by him on the twelfth day of September one thousand and eight hundred & twenty One cow 11 years old One calf One hog One ax One ? One Iron pot One ? pail? kettle Table 3 Chairs 1 Bible and psalm book And also further swears that he is a farmer and well able to labor as men in general of his age and that his family consists of one person the last his wife Lucy aged forty eight years not able to do any work except the house work and that he is in debt to the amount of twenty five dollars.
