KBL] Dec. 15- Allen & Mary had their Wooden Wedding. Dec 25- Christmas Mr. & Mrs. Moore, Ma, Pa, & I all spent the eve to Cy's. I gave Aunt Lois a fruit kinferd [?] and she gave Ma a sofa cushion. Justice and Kirby have gone home to Fredricktown so spend the holidays. Dec 30- Beecher called this p.m. Dec 31- Stormy didn't go to church. 1872 Jan 1st 1872- Aunt Lois gave me a New Years present of a silver napkin ring, & a pansy pin cushion. Jan 12- Mr & Mrs Moore left for North Dunbarton, N.H. Jan 14- Went to church this morn, & Cystoscopy & Sarah went with me this eve. Jan 24- Rec'd letter from Lottie Savage of Chicago concerning the death of her husband. Feb 10- Ma went to Ida's molasses candy and birthday party this eve. Feb 11- Pa & I went to church. Feb 17- Mary went with me to Dr. Clarks to have my teeth out, that is my upper ones, 12 of them. Feb 19- Freddie is 12 to day; got letter from Nin Mar 15- Justice, Kirby, & Layton left for home. Mar 17- Went to church. Wrote Lottie Savage. Mar 20- The first boat of the season came this a.m. Mar 30- Jane Chichester died. Mar 31- Pa is 70 today; Cy, Sarah, & Allen came this eve & we had quite a sing; with M. Lewis and Weathersby's help. April 1st- Mary Mack of Catskill, came as an apprentice & boards at our house. April 2- Prof Samuel F. B. Morse died in N.Y. Jane's funeral at 2 p.m. April 5- Prof Morse's funeral at 11 a.m. at Madison Square Presb church. Dr. Adams pastor assisted by Dr. Wheeler of this city officiated. He was taken to Greenwood for interment. April 16- Mrs. Moore, Addie Cary, Pa & I went to Presb church to Prof Morse's memorial service. he was formerly a member of that church. April 21- Mary Mack went to church with me this a.m. Aug 1st- Allen's birthday. Aug 2- Cyrus' birthday. Aug 3- Rec-d letter from Mary saying Henry & Mina would be here, the middle of the week. Aug 8- Henry & Mina came. Aug 9- Mrs. Moore & Addie left. Aug 11- Henry & Mina left for New Haven. Aug 17 Mary Mack left for Catskill. Aug 321 Rec'd letter from Maria North with her little May's picture. Sept 14 Henry & Mina came back. Sept 17 Henry, Mina, Cy, Fred & Charles Sedgwick left for Hunter. Sept 23 They all returned. Sept 25 Henry & Mina started for home. Sept 26 Mrs. Moore, Miss Egbertson & I went to N.Y. to get the fashions; home at night. Sept 29 Addie went to church with me. Oct 4 ma is 71 today. Oct 5 Mrs. Moore's folks & M. Mack went to Canfields to board Oct 11 My birthday. Oct 14 Henry Freeman drowned from the Lac La Belle, Lake Mich. Oct 20 Pa & I went to church, morn & eve. Oct 21 Aunt Lois is 60 today. Oct 26 Aunt Lois got letter from Mina saying Aunt Sally is very sick, with typhoid fever. Nin is sick with erysipelas. Emory Goodsell dead. Oct 31 Aunt Sally died. Nov 3 Wrote Cornelia, sympathizing with her in her deep affliction. Nov 5 Have just rec'd letter saying Aunt Sally was burried the 2nd of Nov- Saturday. Nov 8 Mrs. Smith & Lillie came this p.m. Nov 9 They left in 3 p.m. train. Nov 11 George Seymore came here to board. Dec 24 George went home to spend the holidays Dec 25 We were all to Cy's to day to spend Xmas. Allen & Mary are down to Yonkers. Dec 27 Allen came this morn at 5 having left Yonkers at 3 p.m. yesterday! the snow was so deep they could hardly get through. 1873 Jan 1st, 1873 Allen & Mary spent New Years in N.Y. & we spent it at home. Jan 11 Bisesness, rather dull so let Mattie & Hattie go. Jan 12 Pa & I have had colds, so didn't go to church. Jan 21 Wrote Cornelia & Mrs. Smith. Jan 27 Mr Sam Chichester died. Feb 10 Ida is 10 years to day. Feb 19 Fred is 13. Mar 2 Went to church. Cy, S & Fred came in and said Sid Longfield is married. Mar 16 Aunt Harriet & I went to 1st Ref church. Mar 27 Baptist church burned at 3 this morn Mar 31 Pa is 71 today. 1874 Jan 1st 1874 New Years Day. Feb 7 Little Lillie born. Feb 22 Pa was taken with pain in his spleen. Feb 23 Called Dr. Payne who says he has billious fever. Feb 25 Pa is very much prostrated does not sit up. Feb 30 Pa is very low Dr. is afraid typhoid will set in. Mar 31 Pa is 72 today. April 5 Pa is slowly recovering. [NOTE: the following entries are written here, then a large "X" over this section indicating that perhaps this was wrong year entered (?)] April 9 Mary & Allen have a little daughter born this Wednesday at 1-30 p.m. Dr. think it will not live; it has heart disease. April 10 Mary is quite comfortable. I sat up with the baby last night. April 11 The baby died at 1/4 to 12 this noon. Its name is Gracie. April 12 Allen got a white casket for baby funeral at 2 p.m. Erastus came just in time. Mr Lawrence read a chap & made a prayer & then Allen & the undertaker took the little angel to the cemetery. not till 79. I see I have got ahead of myself....] June 1st Pa & I went to church found Ella & Jennie Lown in our seat, as Ida, M. Luce, & Aggie Wallace are to unite with the church it being communion day. Ida's verse Mr Lawrence gave her was the 6th v of the 5 chapter of Mathew. "Blessed are they which to hunger & thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled". God grant that they may adorn their profession, by a well ordered, walk and conversation. Jan 29 Van Orden Goodsell died, inflamation of lungs. I see I have neglected to write again. Jan 1st 1875 New Years day. May 18 Aunt Lois taken sick with a general breaking up of he system. May 21 Sate & I went to set up with her, & at 10 saw she was sinking rapidly; she asked Cy for some water; he raised her up & gave it to her, after he laid her down, she said "It's so good". that was the last she spoke & died at 10-30. May 23 Aunt Lois funeral at 2-30 p.m. at Hedding church. Mr Evans read the 91 Ps then the choir sang the 1060 hymn, he then made a prayer, & read the 90 Ps, & made some very good remarks, then the choir sang 10 82 hymn; she was burried in our plot in the cemetery. I have skipped again. 1876 Jan 1st 1876 New Years day. May 14 Mr Fairchild died. Aug 1st Uncle Duncan died. Skipped again. 1877 Jan 1st 1877 New Years day. Oct 26 Sarah Clark died. Nov 21, 1877 Sate married Frank Gardiner. 1878 Jan 1st 1878 Emma Purdy Arbine died of a fibrous tumor. Mar 20 Mrs Graham died. May 8 Richard Howk of Hunter died. Ella is teaching in Dingman's Pa. May 20 Had my under teeth out. June 29 Fred graduated. Aunt H here. Aug 5 Had my new teeth. Aug 13 Corydon's birthday. Sate & I left for Hunter. Found Eliza Wakely, husband and son at Aunt Julia's, when I got there at 8-30. Aug 18 Went to our old church, saw but very few that I ever saw before. Aug 20 Amos came for us to go down to his house. Aug 23 Frank Gardiner came. Aug 24 Amos took us back to Hunter. Aug 27 Sate & Frank left for home, but I stayed longer. Aug 28 Went to Stony Clove on a picknick in an ox team as far as Devil's toomstone with Lois & her boarders. Aug 31 Spent the p.m. at Annie's met Hattie there. Sept 1st Went to church,. Sept 2 Called on Lizzie Green & Helen Edwards. Sept 4 Spent the day at Lois'. Sept 6 Aunt Julia & I came to Po'keepsie. Sept 8 Ma, Pa, Aunt Julia & I went to 1st Ref church this morn. It is the first Ma has been up town to church in several years. Sept 16 Sarah, Fred, Aunt J & I went to the cemetery in Fred's boat; stopped at the furnace to see them run off iron. Sept 17 Aunt & I went to Vassar, went through & in the museum. Sept 18 Aunt J left for home. I went with her & put her in the cars, then went to Eliza Wakely's in Bowery St. Kingston & spent the night. Sept 19 Eliza took me to ride, & then to the ferry to cross over to take the cars for home. arrived home at 8 p.m. found Ma not very well. Nov 27 Mrs. Smith & Lillie came. Thanksgiving day Fred & Ida took dinner with us but Ella had sore throat & fever, & couldn't come. Nov 29 Ella is very sick. Nov 30 She is some better. Mrs. S & Lillie left for home. Dec 1st Lillie Purdy was taken with fever to day. Allen & I called to see how Ella was, found her still improving. Dec 2 Lillie was down stairs & played with Willie today. Dec Lillie has sore throat, called Dr. Haight who said it was diphtheria. Dec 4, 5, & 6 her throat is very bad. Dec 7 Membraneous croup set in. Dec 8 Sunday She is suffering very much Dec 9 This p.m. thought she was dying; sent for Fred at school. The revived some at night, but suffered terribly through the night. Mrs Breckbill sat up, about 3-o'clock Mrs. Osborne called me, thinking she was dying. It was heart rending to see the little dear, strugling for breath. Dec 10 About 7 this morning she wanted her Pa to carry her, so walked in the parlor but thought she would die in his arms. She looked up & saw the ferns & Autumn leaves that Ella put up, & said pointing to them, "pretty, pretty, ferns, pictures". then she wanted to go in the rocking chair, & asked where her silver dollar, grandpa gave her was. They got it, & put it around her dollie's neck. She had a coughing spell, then seemed to breath better for awhile. Towards night she began to fill up again. Sid & Stella sat up with them. Dec 11 This morn we could see she was failing. She wanted Willie's carriage; so they put her in it. I saw her lips turning purple, also her nails, she wanted her pa to carry her; then her Ma took her, & she died in her arms at 20 minutes to 10 a.m. Dec 13 Etta Stanton sent a boquet. Annie Blakburn, Mrs. Todd, Osborne & Clara Gillen brought flowers, & Lillie Patrick sent a Crescent with "Our Lillie" in violets. The funeral was at 2 p.m. at the house Mr Lawrence & Abbot officiated. Mrs. Buckley & Mary McArthur came just before the funeral. Dec 15 Sarah is sick with sore throat; we fear she is getting dyptheria, but hope not. Dec 16 Sarah has dyptheria. Dec 30 She is getting better. 1879 Jan 1st 1979 New Years day. Mar 10 Paulie Frost Gardiner born April 9 Mary & Allen have a little daughter! born Wednesday at 3 O p.m. Dr. Payne thinks it will not live; it has heart disease. April 10 Mary is quite comfortable. May 18 Mary went to church. ay 11 Pa's ankles & feet are swollen. we thought he was getting dropsy but Dr. Payne says it is weakness, as he had worked the week before for first since he was sick. May 26 Pa went to work again. June 29 Fred graduated. Aunt Harriet was here & we all went up the exercises were at YMCA rooms. The friends of the graduates and graduates were treated to cake & cream. I see I have neglected to write again for some time. 1882 Jan 21 Fred left for Texas. Ella graduated June 1881. Sate died Oct 29, 1881. Feb 21 1882 Paulie sick, was threatened with croup Mar 13 Frank went to house keeping over the store June 4 Aunt Christina died, funeral the 6 at 2 p.m. June 15 Frank broke up house keeping Aug 15 He went to Danbury, Sep 9 Cy gave up his house Sept 14th 1882 Amanda died of consumption at Hunter. Sept 23 Our back chimney tumbled down. Sept 26 Sarah & Paulie came from Dingman's. Sept 29 Julia Purdy Littlefield died at 10 p.m. in convultions. Aug 29 Cy went to Pen & Ella & Osbornes for Thompsons Grove. Oct 3 Mrs. Smith & Mrs. Brewer came, also Mrs Buckley. Oct 4 Ma's birthday. Mrs S, B, & I went shopping. Mrs S bought Ma a bath towel and Mrs. B got Ma a damask towel for her birthday & one a plate & cup & saucer. I bought Ma a bottle of Florida water & some candy she is 81. We all went to Cy's to dinner; in the afternoon Mrs S, B, Ma & I went to Vassar College. Cy's & Allen's folks spent the eve here. Oct 5 Mrs S, & Mrs B left for home on 7 a.m. train. Oct 6 Frank came from Danbury. Oct 7 Frank, Paulie & Cy's folks were here to tea. Oct 8 Prof Caldwell of Vassar preached for us this morn. Oct 9 Frank left on Powel for Danbury. Allen left on the Eagle for Saugerties, & Cy left on 1 p.m. train for N.Y. to see about a situation in the Delamater Iron Works. Ma & I went over to Allen's Tillie & Rena came while we were there. Oct 10 Rec'd letter from Ida. Oct 11 my birthday. Oct 12 Rec'd letter from Maria North concerning Julia's death also that Eddie is very sick in Texas. Clara Waring came. Wrote Maria, Frank & Fred. Oct 13 Sarah & I went to Martha's to surprise party this p.m. Oct 14 Clara left this morn. Oct 15 Cy & Allen left in boat this eve for N.Y. Cy to work in Delamater Iron works & Allen to run the engine in restaurant car Broadway & Howard St. Cy had a room to Mrs. Smith's till 15 Nov. Dec 2 Cy's folks left their house and moved there things in here. the girls came here & Cy & Sarah went to N.Y. & hired a few rooms & kept house. Dec 18 Allen's wedding anniversary. Mrs. Osborne called to bid us good bye as she sails for Cal the 20th. Dec 25 Ki Tuttle died of consumption. Dec 26 Ella & Ida left in night boat for N.Y. Dec 28 rec'd letter from Ida saying Ella was sick with diptheretic sore throat some fever. Dec 30 Carrie Douglas came to receive New Years calls with the Farrington girls. 1883 Jan 2 1883 Carrie was here to dinner. Jan 5 Harrison Egbertson came from Hunter Jan 6 He left this afternoon. Jan 9 Jennie Farrington came for Paulie to go up there & spend the day. Jan 16 Frank came this eve. Jan 19 He left this p.m. Feb 7 Lillie would have been 9 to day. Feb 10 Ida is 20 to day Mary went to N.Y. Feb 14 Mr Laurence called & while he was here Flora Vasburgh & Kate Gillen called. Feb 16 James Vasburgh came & stayed all night. Feb 17 Called at Gillen's to see Flora's baby bid her good bye Feb 18 ExGov St. John of Kan lectured on temperance at the Presb church this p.m. Feb 19 Fred is 23 to day. Mar 10 Paulie is 4 to day. Mar 17 Will Luce died Allen came from N.Y. Frank came from Wappingers this eve. Mar 18 Went to church. All & Frank left this eve. Mar 25 Easter Sunday went to church this morn; took Paulie to Holy Comforter this p.m. Frank came Mary took tea here. Mar 26 Little Morrie Osborne died. Mar 28 Paulie & I went to Morrie's funeral. April 2 Cy's folks moved from 18th St. to 100th St. April 14 Aunt Hannah died this morn in Mich. April 16 Her funeral at 2 p.m. May 4 Charlie & Callie Palmer jumped from the carriage they were in as the horse was running away. May 11 Ella came from N.Y. glad to see her. May 22 Lois came. May 24 Ella's birthday. Bridge Celebration in Brooklyn, N.Y. May 26 Cy came May 27 He went home. May 3 Decoration Day; a great panic on the bridge; a woman faints-, someone cries the bridge's falling. they rush to get off; are trampled on, in the N.Y. stairway, & from 12 to 15 killed. June 3 Frank came & took Paulie down to Wappenger's with him. June 5 I went to Wappenger's in the stage for her, as she got homesick, came back in the cars. June 6 Artie's birthday. he would have been 14. June 9 Allen came this eve on 7 train. June 11 He left this morn at 4. June 12 Ella & Hattie Osborne left for N.Y. on Powell June 15 Ella & Hattie came this eve Ma, Pa & Paulie took tea to Mary's June 28 Paulie & I went down to see Ruthie's baby, a little girl, it will be a month old tomorrow. Sept 23 Sarah & Aunt Harriet went to Saugerties to see to her things. Sept 25 Went to Mrs. Reynolds funeral at 2 p.m. Sept 26 Woman's Temperance Convention at 1st M.E. church Oct 1st Mrs. Mayo came to board. Oct 4 Ma is 82 to day. Clara Waring gave her an apron & handkerchief. Mary & Mother visited here. Oct 8 Cy surprised us, just before tea, he had been up to Saugerties. Oct 11 My birthday. Paulie & I in Delafield St. and then up Mill; called on Artie Turner, then up to Baccus Opening & then to Mrs. Freeman's opening called on Mrs. Osborne. Morrie's folks moved to Albany to day. Oct 18 Centennial Day in Newburgh to day Rensaler & Elsie called on their way from there; & just after they left Amos came, he had been there too, he stayed all night-- Oct 28 Allen & Mary, here this eve we had a sing. Oct 29 Two years since Sate died of consumption. Oct 30 Allen & Mary went to N.Y. to board; they took tea here, & Pa & I went down to the Miller to see them off found Hattie Osborne there; she is going down to Cy's Rec'd postal from Ida from Hunter that Uncle Isaac is very sick. Nov 1 Rec'd a telegram that Uncle Isaac died Oct 31st. at 1/4 to 5. funeral at 2-30 Nov 2nd. Nov 2 Pa, Ma, Paulie & I left for Hunter on 6,35 a.m. train; when we got to Phoenicia, who should come in but Wm. Sanglas! it was snowing very fast, & snowed till we got there; he put us in a stage & sent us up to his house. Lois came running down to the gate to meet us, but Carrie & Ida didn't see us till we had got in. We had dinner & at 2 went to Aunt Julia's found all three of the boy's there; it was quite a surprise to them, & all seemed glad to see us, but it was a sad meeting. Mr. Race officiated and the choir sang. Nov 3 Pa, Ma, Paulie & I spent the day to Anna D's. Mr. Totten who was boarding there, went with Sadie, Pa I to the Camp grounds; he gave Ma a bracket made of laurel roots. Nov 4 Pa, Ma Ida & I went to Presb church; it was communion day, Ma said after we got back, that she took her first communion in that church and probably her last. In the p.m. we went to Sate & Amanda's graves. Pa & Ma spent the eve with Aunt Julia & Erastus & I went to Methodist. John to Presb. Nov 5 Amos, Hattie & Ella spent the day to Lois'. Nov 6 Lois & Rodney took us down to Amos'. spent the eve to Aunt Julia's. Nov 7 Left Hunter in 8=3- train; had Lockwood company as far as Edgewood. Ida came with us to Kingston, then took West Shore to Saugerties. Nov 15 Ida came. Nov 16 Aunt Julia & John came. Nov 18 Ida left for N.Y. Nov 20 Sarah came from N.Y. Nov 22 She left this morn for Saugerties. I sent Aunt Harriet's things. Aunt Julia & Ma are most sick with colds. Nov 29 Erastus came on his way to Catskill to see about the Will as he is executor. Aunt Julia went down to N.Y. on boat. Frank & Villa took dinner here. Nov 30 Erastus met his mother this morn & took her over to Brooklyn to Will's. Dec 15 Rodney Douglas came. Dec 17 Rodney, Paulie & I went to Wappenger Falls to get Frank's house ready for his bride as he is to be married to Arvilla Lewis. Christmas & as they are to have a reception here, I8 have lots to do besides making 6 or 8 different kinds of cake. Dec 25 Frank, Rodney, Paulie & I left in a sleigh at 5 for the wedding which was to be at 6 p.m. at New Hamburgh. Ida left Po'keepsie at the same time, so we met at the wedding in a snow storm. After the wedding we were invited in the dining room to supper; had just sat down when our sleigh came, so we had to hurry off; and arrived home at 7 where we found every thing in order as we left a colored woman to cut cake, set table, wipe grapes & make coffee; we had a man to make lemonade. Dec 27 Ida & I left for home. Dec 30 Cy came this morn on his way to Saugerties. Rodney came from Wappengers. 1884 Jan 1st 1884 Ida went to M. Luce's to receive calls with her. Jan 5 Rodney left for home. Jan 15 Ida & I left for N.Y. Jan 16 We went to Mrs. Smith's; was there to dinner. Jan 17 Commenced Mary Schofield's dress. Jan 20 Stormy so didn't go to church. Jan 21 Commenced Ella's cloak & dress. Jan 25 Went to Mrs. Smith's; cut & made her a polonaise while there, & fixed Lillie's lavender satin, & her pink satin. Jan 28 Mrs S & I went to Presb church, cor 31st st. & 9th ave, & in the eve Mr S & I went to the same church. Jan 28 Mr S & I went to Chickering Hall to an entertainment, in aid of St. Ann's Episcopal church. Feb 3 Ida & I went to dedication of Calvary Baptist church in 57th St. that 6 & 7 ave's. Allen came to Cy's in p.m. & at 5 we left in 8th ave. care. I got out at 24th to go to Mrs S's & he went in to 10th St. Feb 5 Went to Brooklyn found all well but Aunt Julia she had been very sick with pneumonia but could walk around the room a little. Got back to Mrs. Smith's a little after 7 found Ella waiting for me, so after bidding them good bye left for Cy's. Feb 6 Ella & I called on Clara Waring. Left for home at 2-15 Ella, Ida & Allen accompanied me to the depot; found Mr. Smith there. Arrived home about 5, found Ma & Pa well & glad to see me. Feb 7 Little Lillie's birth day; she would have been 10. Went to Bank for M. Schofield called at Allen's Josie's. Feb 8 Irene Powel committed suicide by taking arsenic this eve because Maloney took away some things she took from his store where she was clerk & hadn't paid for them. Feb 11 Angie Paulding died at 4 this morn of typhoid fever. Feb 13 Her funeral this p.m. Feb 14 Hattie Andrus died. Feb 17 Mary & I went to our church in the rain. Hattie's funeral this Sunday at 3 p.m. from chapel of Presb church. Feb 18 Frank Lucky & Let Rensky married at 11 a.m. Mr. Laurence, Mary was there. Feb 19 Fred is 24 to day. Mar 4 Bessie Bissell born at 5 p.m. June 29 Paulie & I went to Opera House to High School commencement, there were 21 graduates. Ainley Reynolds was among the number. Josie Bissell & Mrs. Hoyt of Fair Haven called. Got a paper from Sam Goodsell with notice of his sister's death. Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts; of consumption June 18 at 8 a.m. Aug 3 Mr. Osborne's family, Ella & Ida & M Luce went 12 miles back of Cornwall to camp out. Aug 8 Carrie Smith died at 2 a.m. in spasms. Aug 10 Millie Cameron came at noon; & Clara Waring came just before Carrie's funeral. Aug 12 Frank came & brought Mr Johnson to dinner tea. Aug 14 F, Mr. J, Millie Mary P, Paulie, the girls & I went over the river after dinner. Aug 15 F, & I went on an excurtion to Saratoga. Paulie laid a trap for me this eve, by putting a broom across the door way. I didn't see it & ran against it which crippled me for several days. ma made a bread poultice which helped me. Frank came. Allen came this p.m. Paulie takes with scarlet fever. Aug 20 Millie left for home. Sent for Dr. Payne. Aug 22 Henry & Ada came. Aug 28 Sarah & Jimmie came but had to go to Josie's as he had his little boy with him, and was afraid he would et the fever. Aug 3 Sarah & Jimmie left for N.Y. Sept 5 Ella & Ida left in Powell for N.y. Clara Waring came at 8 this morn. Sept 11 Sarah came in Powell this eve. Sept 15 Allen came. Paulie went out for the first Sept 16 Pa, Clara, & I went to Hedding to hear Bob Hart the converted minstrel. his right name is Sutherland. Sept 19 Got letter from Harrison, Susie died Aug 19 at 7 or 8 p.m. Sept 22 Cy came on Powel, said they brought Mrs. Wm. Reynolds corpse on the boat; she was thrown from a carriage into the river at Milton & killed at 3 this p.m. The horse took fright. Sept 30 Cy, Sarah & Aunt H came from Saugerties. Cy went to N.Y. on night boat Sarah waited till next day so Ma & Pa could do down with her. Oct 1st They left on noon boat. Oct 10 Mary came up with Ma & Pa on the Powel. Pa had a slight stroke of paralysis this morn at Cy's they came just as we were putting out the flags & Chinese lanterns for the republican parade it took an hour to pass our house. Oct 11 My birth day Mary gave me an embroidered handkerchief. she left for home this p.m. Oct 30 Hattie Goodsell died of tumor, funeral Nov 3d. I see I have skipped from Feb 19 to June 29 & so will insert it here. Mar 5 Pa put a bill on our house at 10 a.m. & we had 6 applicants before night. Aunt Harriet health is failing her & wants us to move up there, so if we can rent our house to advantage we will go & only take what we need & put the rest in the attic L. Reynolds & Ainley called this eve. Mar 6 Had 4 applicants to day. Mar 7 Had 4 more today. O what an icy time! our trees are loaded down & some of the limbs have broken off. Sarah went to N.Y. on Hasbrouck to night. Mar 8 Pa said to day "I can't feel reconciled to going up to Saugerties". I said well Pa you can take the bill off we won't go. Mar 9 Snowed so didn't go to church. Mar 15 Sarah came on boat, before breakfast, and left on West Shore road this eve at 7-28 for Saugerties. Mar 26 Mary came on 5 p.m. train to see about renting their house to Wm. Voce, they are to pay $225 a year. Mary reserves one room to store some things in. Mar 28 Mary left on 5 p.m. train for New Hamburgh. Mar 31 Pa is 82 to day. April 1st Ella came this morn before breakfast. April 11 Ella went to Albany with Mr. Osborne April 18 She came on 5 p.m. train with Mr. Osborne, says she found Hattie worse than she expected. April 20 Mrs. Distin & Minnie came down to Hedding church called here & stayed to dinner. Ella went to N.Y. to night on the Miller. I wrote Sarah to Saugerties. April 21 Mary came to pack their things to move to N.Y. April 22 I went & helped her. April 23 Finished painting Entrence to the Park in pastel. April 24 Allen came this morn. I helped them this p.m. April 25 Helped them again. April 26 Gillen took the things down to go on the Miller April 27 Allen & Mary went down on the Miller with the things. April 29 I commenced house cleaning May 5 Cy came this noon from Saugerties. May 6 Got letter from Allen saying their things got there all right & not a thing broken! May 18 Went up to hear our new minister this morn Rev. Wayland Spaulding. like him very much. May 21 Pa & I went to the Ordination & Intstalation of our new pastor. Mr. Laurence gave the charge to the church & Dr. Wheeler extended a welcome in behalf of the city. May 30 Decoration day. finished cleaning house. Pa had a chill this p.m. & then a fever. I gave him some medicine. May 31 He is better. June 1st Went to church, it was communion day Mr & Mrs Spaulding were taken in by letter. June 5 Charles Eastmeads body found near Milton June 6 I attended his funeral Dr. Wheeler & Mr Spaulding officiated. June 8 Children's Day at our church Pa & I went. In the afternoon went to hear Mrs Amanda Deyo on temperance June 9 Lottie Freeman died of typhoid fever at 6-30 this morn in Cleveland. Lois came just before supper. June 10 She left this afternoon. June 18 Wrote Paulie June 19 Uncle Sam came. June 25 Ida came in Powel this eve. June 26 Ella came in Powel. June 27 Lillie Smith came at 5 p.m. the girls attended a lawn party this eve at Mrs Luce's. June 28 Lillie went home this morn. June 29 Uncle Sam, Pa Ella & I went to our church this morn. July 7 Ella & Ida went with a party to Lake Mohunk. Uncle Sam went home. July 21 Ella & Ida went with a party to Summit Lake. July 29 They returned this eve. July 30 They left for home. Aug 1st Allen's birth day. Mary came. Aug 2 Cy's birth day. Aug 7 Mamie Smith came, & said her sister Carrie was worse, so Mary went down with her Aug 8 She died at 2 a.m. in spasms. Aug 10 Funeral at N. Hamburgh this p.m. Sunday. her remains arrived in the cemetery at 4 p.m. Pa, Clara & I went down. Allen was with them but went back & stayed all night. Aug 11 Allen & Mary came up & spent the day; & left for N.Y. in the eve; he took the basket of peaches I painted for them Aug 13 Corydon's birthday. Aug 22 Henry & Ada came this noon on the boat. Aug 23 Cy & Sarah came on the cars this eve. Aug 24 Went to Cemetery. Cy went home on night boat. Aug 25 Pa & Sarah went to Saugerties with Henry & Ada. Aug 26 Henry & Ada left Saugerties for Hunter. Aug 28 Pa came on the Martin. Sept 12 A great torch light procession by the young men's republican club Sept 16 Pa & I went to Opera House to republican mass meeting. The speakers were Senator Warner Miller, Silas B. Dutcher of Brooklyn & Mahlon Chase of Ohio. Dec 4 Uncle San came. Dec 7 Communion, Pa & I went. Mr Spaulding lectured on temperance at the Court House at 2 p.m. Pa, Uncle, & I went. In the evening we went to Hedding to hear a converted Jesuit Priest. Dec 8 Uncle Sam left for home this morn. Dec 18 Allen's wedding anniversary. Dec 20 Mrs Blanshan fell down the back stairs & cut the back of her head on a little closet at the foot of the stairs. Dec 23 Wrote Allen & Ella this eve. Dec 24 Rec'd a letter from Mrs Corbin from Beatrice, Gage Co Neb; as she wants to get a pension on her son Bloomer who was starved in a rebel prison. she wished Ma to go before a Notary Public & testify that Bloomer was her son, for she was there when he was born. Ma is the only one living who was there. so Dec 30 we went to see Frank Hasbronck & she testified that he was her son as she was their. I wrote her to that effect I think she got it. END OF BOOK FOUR
