Joan Bissel & Annie called in PM. Jan 4th Our Sunday School begin at 12 instead of 9. Mr. Spaulding formed a Bible class in the audience room so I stayed & joined it. This PM Pa & I went to 1st ME church to a prison reform meeting. The week of prayer comenced at out church this eve. Jan 8th Wrote to Paulie & Allen. Jan 11 Went to church & Bible class. Jan 18 Came home from church & found Mary & Em Millard here they were going out to George Brown's at 5 PM to see James Smith & Carrie Sedgwick married. Mr Wheeler married them, they took the 8 o'clock train for N.Y. & Mary stopped at our church & came home with me. Jan 20 Mary & I left this morn; for New Hamburgh and I went to Wappingers Falls to see Paulie, who was delighted to see me; had to leave before Frank came to dinner so didn't see him. on my way back stopped to E. Millards & Julia's home at 5 PM. Jan 25 Pa & I went to church, I stayed to Bible class. wrote to Fred this PM. Feb 1st Pa sick with a cold--snow so I can't go to church. Feb 3 Ma & I both have colds in our heads & throats & cough a good deal. Feb 7 Lillie's birthday--would have been 11 years if she had lived. Josie came in with her baby. Feb 8. Ma & I don't get over our colds yet. Snows so I couldn't go to church anyway. Feb 10 Ida's birthday. Letter from Maria North. Mr. Brant died Monday the 9th of congestion of the bowels. funeral at 1/2 past 2 at Washington St. ME church. Wrote to Ella. Feb 12 Mr Otic Bisbee died suddently of heart disease or apoplexy. Feb 22 Have been home from church Sunday as I had a cold==went today & to service of song. Rev. Mr. millard of Cannon St. church led the service. Feb 23 It is 46 years to day since Corydon died & 5 years to day since Hiram Reynolds died. Feb 26 Mr. George Kent died this afternoon. Feb 24 Rec'd letter from Lucinda Gardiner saying hers mother died of heart disease the 7th of Jan. Mar 1st went to church & to Mr. Kent's funeral at Hedding church at 2 PM. The free masons turned out & had their burrial service at the church instead of the grave as it rained. April 12th C.K. Waring came this morn. April 17th Mary Purdy came, had been to New Hamburgh her mother has crysiphelus. April 19 to church & Bible class. April 26 Ida came this PM had been to Detroit, Rochester & Syracuse & left Appropriate 28 noon. April 1st Wednesday Wm Cassum one of Fred's chums of this City, who is a student at Hamilton University, delivered a discourse at the Baptist church which was of a very interesteing nature & riveted the attention of his hearers from the beginning to the close. April 20 Clara went to N.Y. this eve & Ida left N.Y. for Baltimore the same night. May 3rd Pa and I went to our church this morning, I stayed to Bible class. attended the 4th Anniversary of the YWC Association at the 1st ME church address by the pastor Frank L Wilson. went to our church in eve. May 4th Wrote to Fred. May 5th Found Allen down stairs this morning when I went down. Clara came in the morn too, they both came up on the Miller but didn't know it till they got here. Clara & I went over the river this PM & then up to F. Chichesters to see Maria. Allen left on the 6-30 train this eve for home. May 10 Pa & I went to churhc this morn & to temperance meeting this PM. I went to church in the eve. May 11th Clara went over the river to get board (but was disappointed so went to the Poughkeepsie House. May 13th went to our church to lady's missionary meeting at 4 PM. In the eve ans Aunt Julia's letter. May 17th Pa and I went to church this morn. Our B C was very interesting. We went temperance meeting at the court house to hear Mrs. Frances E. Harper, National Supt of the WCYU work among the colored people. Wrote to Allen & Carrie Douglass. & to church in the eve. May 24 Sunday Pa & I went to church it is Ella's birthday. May 29 Went to Yonkers on the 8 AM train to visit Mrs. Smith found Lillie dressing for Greenwood Lake NJ. May 30 Mrs S and I took a walk up Warburton Ave it is a lovely Ave, 4 m in length. May 31 Mr Smith & I went to the Baptist church. Mrs S had headache as usual. June 5 went to N>Y> this morn with Mr. Smith, went to Cy's first in PM Sarah & I went to Allen's stayed to tea so as to see Allen got back found Cy waiting for us. June 6 Artie's birthday. Sarah & I went to Central Park to the unveiling of the Statue of the landing of the Pilgrims. but couldn't get near it, so went to the Museum & to the Obelisk. June 7 Sarah & I* went to hear Dr. Hall this morn. Allen came up in the PM. In the eve Cy, Sarah and I went to Presb church in 42 St. June 8 Sarah & I went shopping I bought some Surrah silk June 9 swent to Allen's. June 10 Ella went to Po'keepsie on the Powel to attend the wedding of Sadie Lown and Eli Sutclif which is to take place tomorrow at 5 PM at Christ's Church. commenced Mary's silk dress. June 11 Allen Mary & I called on James & Carrie Smith this eve going home all treated us to Soda water. June 12 James & Carrie called Mary & I went accross the Bridge this PM & then to the building where Allen is he took us all through it. Erastus called & said I had got to go home with him to Afton the next day & stay over Sunday. June 13 went with Erastus at 4 PM. found all well & waiting with the carriage to take us to Afton from Madison. June 14 went to Presb church in a carriage 2 miles with Erastus, Sarah, & Eddie. heard a colored minister from South Carolina by the names of Williams. text Jonah 1st 4th. June 15 had a nice ride to Madison to take the cars this morn Aunt Julia came with us as she goes to Po'keepsie with me. went to Allen's to lunch then we went to Cy's and at 5 PM Sarah & I started for 30 St. depot to meet Mr. Sm as I was going home with him to Yonkers but Aunt J stayed to CXy's till the next day & is to go up to Po on the Powel. June 16 left for home on the 3 oclock train arrived home at 5 found all well. & Lois & Ella had left for Hunter at 1, so I just missed the. I also found a letter waiting me from Ida. June 17 Pa went to the boat for Aunt Julia this morn found her waiting for him Clara W called this morn she is boarding over the river. June 20 Charlie Palmer died at the Insane Asylum here aged 26. He was taken there a month ago. In temperance the cause. June 21st Pa & I went to church & I to Bible class. at noon & church in the eve. June 24 Attended C. Palmer's funeral at his fathers at 4 PM this afternoon. Rev Frank L Wilson officiated; & Mr Vincent made a prayer. Charlie recovdered consciousness before he died; his father asked him if he was trusting in Jesus, he said "I am'. that was the last word he spoke.--Called at Mrs. Cassum's to find out where Will is this summer as Fred wishes to answer his letter. June 25 Wrote to Fred & Ida she is at Louisville Ky; will start for home Saturday the 27th. Jul 4 such a snapping & cracking! July 5 Pa & I went to church. Jul 15 Ella came from Hunter this eve July 17 Ella left for home on Powell this morn July 18 have just got our sun umbrella July 19 Pa & I went to church & temperance meeting addressed by colored woman of salvation Army at Washington DISCONTINUE. July 21 Thermometer 102 in shade at our house July 23 Gen Grant died at 8 o;clock this morn. Thursday at Mt. McGregor. July 26 Pa was taken this morning with cholera morbus. I gave him morphine & soda and when I came from church thought I'd give him another, but he was vomiting so I had to go & get some medicine of Dr. Payne. Our church as well as other churshes was draped in mourning for Gen. Grant who died of cancer of the throat, had been sick 9 months. Minnie Gillen called this eve with Charlie Posburgh of Woodstock. July 28 Uncle Sam came. Aug 1st Allen's birthday. Aug 2nd Cy's birthday. R. Tharp came Aug 6th went to our prayer meeting Aug 8 Gen Grant's funeral procession in H.Y. a great crowd there he is burried at Riverside Park north of Central Park. Aug 9th Pa went to Hedding church with Uncle Sam & I to our church 2nd Ref church to Grants memorial sermon Aug 10 Ida came just after we had finished dinner & while she was eating, Maria North & husband & May & Fred came. They saw Grants funeral procession in N.Y. In the PM we went to Eastmans Terrace to call on Clara, Maria & Emily. Aug 11 Norths folks left for Ohio Aug 12 Uncle Sam & I went to __ Island on Hedding picknick. Aug 13 Corydon's birth day. Aug 14 Uncle Sam left for home. Aug 15 Emma Chichester called. Ida had been there so she came with her. Allen's wife came from N. Hamburgh this PM she was here to tea & left on 7 train for N.H. as her Ma is very sick with fever & dropsy. Aug 16 Pa & I went to Babptist church this morn, & to temperance meeting in PM. wrote to Fred. Aug 18 Ida left for home in the Powel this morn--Sarah came on Powel this eve. Pa & I went to meet her but didn't see her, when we came home found her here. Aug 19 Susie Egbertson died dysentery. Aug 21 Sunday night, between 12 & 1 Mrs. Bishop died at N. Hamburgh. Aug 23 Pa, Sarah & I went to Presb church to ehar Hom. Neal Dawson temperance, he is 82 years old & a smart speaker. Aug 24 Sarah went home on Powel this morn--Pa & I went with her to the boat & had to run a ways came back, took up the eagle, was surprised to see Mrs. Bishops death & that her funeral was at 1/2 past 2 at Presb church N. Hamburgh. they brought her up here for burial & I should have gone down to the cemetery but it thundered & looked like a shower. Jennie Bailey called. Aug 25 rained all day. Allen came up from N. Hamburgh but Mary didn't as it rained so hard. Allen went home on 7 PM train. Jennie (Wagenar) Bailey spent the day here. Sept 2 Aunt Harriet and I went up to Saugerties this morn on the Tremper Sept 5 came home on W. Shore Road. Sept 6 our church opened again to day, after vacation with a good sermon & Bible class. Mr. Loomis was there. Sept 13 Pa & I went to church. Sept 18 Clara Waring Maria Thorp & husband & I , went to Rondout, Mr &-YEAR-OLD Mrs. Thorp went to Kingston to see Eliza Waklee. I called at Mrs. Jennie Hutton's with Clara, she stayed there to dinner but I went to Tillie's Ainley's Dave was to N.Y. Tillie went to the boat with me Eliza took Maria & Thorp to the boat so had the pleasure of seeing her. soon Clara came all reported, as having had a good time. home at 4 o'clock called on Mrs. Frank Basley, Mrs. McWhinnie, Josie and Mrs. John Hamilton but didn't find her home. Sept 20 Pa & I went to churh & in PM went to Babptist church to Centennial Temperance meeting let by the ministers of the city there being 12 of them on the platform. Mr Wheeler was to make the opening prayer but was sent for as one of his churhc was dying it proved to be Mrs. Joseph Bartlet. Sept 22 I took Aunt Julia up to a Notary Public to sign her name to the deed of her place. Sept 23 Mr & Mrs Smith came this morn very unexpectedly. I went to the depot with them when they left at 4-30 PM. Sept 24 I went to prayer meeting the Secretary of YMCA Mr Phillips was there & made some remarks. Lizzie Reynolds called on her way from Rondout, this PM. Sept 27 was surprised this morn to come down stairs & find Cy here. Pa & I went to church. Cy said Ida left with the company for Reading, Pa. Cy left on night boat at 7 PM. Oct 4 Ma is 84 to day I gave her a blue calico dress & 2 towels. Oct 6th called at Andrus' to see if Mary Nelson had come from N.Y. found Allen's wife there she came the night beforew with Mary Nelson; she came over after dinner, had tea here then she & I went up to mr. Wilson's to see about the rent of Allen's house. Wednesday she went to her cousins Henworthy's to spend the day & I went M. Thorps dressmaking. Oct 8 Mary left for home at 1 PM. Oct 11 my birthday. Pa & I went to church I stayed to Bible class. Pa & I went up to temperance meeting George Brown & Crumey spoke & Prof Stevens, sang. I went up to young peoples prayer meeting and to church this eve. Oct 15 went to church roll call at our church Oct 24 Josh Billings funeral at Leavesborough, Mass at 11 AM Oct 25 Ma, Pa & I went to 1st Ref church to union service also Henry W. Shaw. Oct 14 Josh Billings died at Monterey, Cal of apoplexy. he was to have lectured there Friday. Oct 27 Moody & Langley commenced their meetings at the Opera House this morning. Pa & I went up, they are truly men of God. we went again this PM. and in the eve went to Reformed Church to the overflow meeting that was packed as was the Opera house. the meeting at the church was led by E. Bliss. Oct 28 Pa & I went Moody meeting this morn and in PM ma went with us it was so full we couldn't get a seat only on the platform back of singers. so she counldn't hear the speakers in the eve Pa & I went to the overflow meeting. Oct 29 Gen George B McClellan died of heart disease at his residence in East Orange, N.J. about 3 o'clock this morning. Oct 30 it is a years since Uncle Isaac died. Hattie Goodsell died of tumor. Nov 1st Lindy started fir on gas burner. Pa & I went to our church in morn & to Union meeting at the Opera house this PM. what a crowd! I went to overflow meeting in eve, came home in rain. Nov 2 Uncle Isaac was burried 2 years ago. I called on Lizzie Reynolds & Tillie Ainsley, found Dave home, they moved from Rondout two weeks ago. Nov 3 Election day. Cy m oved to 346 W. 62nd St. Nov 4 Ella came. Nov 5 Pa, Ella & I went to 1st Ref church to Bliss meeting as he is to continue on 2 or 3 weeks. Nov 8 Sunday, rained all day Ella went to Mattie Gillen in the eve. Nov 9 Clara called & took Ella home with her to maria Thorps. Nov 10 Ella left for home this eve on the boat. Nov 12 rained all day so didn't go to church Nov 19 had a sore throat didn't go to church, Pa Ma & Aunt Julia has had colds. Nov 20 Ida Clegg Dubois died of comsumption, funeral this PM. Augustus Aveng clerk at stamp window at PO died on his way, home to tea of hemorage of lungs. funeral this PM at his father's in Conklin St. I called on Tillie & Bell in Balding Ave-- & also on Carrie Wheeler Brown to see how her father is; he has had congestion of brain; and has lain unconscious since Wednesday. I then went to 1nd Ref church to Mr. Bliss' Bible Readings at 4 PM. Nov 21st had letter from Ella saying they were getting their store stocked, with confectionary & stationary. Little Hattie Osborn, Morrie's baby died last night in Albany. Tillie & Bell called--also CWaring. Nov 22 Sunday went to church & BC this morn, Pa & I went to Presbyterian church to Song Service led by EW Bliss in eve Mrs. B & Della & I went to Opera House to Bliss last meeting here. the house was packed & hundreds had to go away to the overflow meeting at Cannon St. ME church. Nov 23 Little Hattie Osborn's funeral was at Josie Bissels this PM at 2 0'clock. Nov 25 Hendricks Vic Prsident, died in Indianapolis. Nov 29 went to church. Dec 4 Mrs. Buckley came to Josie's Dec 7 Mrs Susan Morse Lynd daughter of Prof Morse threw herself into the sea in a fit of insanity while enroute from Porto Rico, to Havana. Dec 7th Wm H. Vanderbilt, the 2 hundred jillion dollar, millionaire, dropped dead at 2-30 PM of paralysis at his home in N.Y. Ruth Dubois married to C. Jobes Dec 10 Mrs. Buckley called. Dec 11 Vanderbilt funeral--burried on Staten Island. Dec 13 Pa & I went to church Rev Hicks preached for us. it rained when we came home. Dec 14 rec'd letter from D. Douglass saying Annie has cancer in breast. Dec 16 Annie & Dan came to have her cancer removed by Dr. Greensword. Dec 17 Dan went to Catskill. Dec 19 he came back & stayed over Sunday Dec 21 he left for Hunter. Mary Hanks came to take care of Annie. rec'd letter from Fred. Dr put the first plaster on Annie. she &u Miss Hanks are boarding here. Dec 24 went to prayer meeting. Dec 25 Christmas. some of us ladies made upa purse of money & gave to Mrs. Spaulding--nearly $50. we Dec 27 went to church and S.S. in morn. at 4 PM went to Song service in 1st ME church, addressed by Ralph Wells of N.Y. in eve went to Pabptist church to hear Will Cassum. he read 1 Cor 1 chap--text 1 Cor 12 chap 3rd verse. 1886 Jan 1st 1886E & H Everat called, also Josie Bissel. wrote to Fred & Lillie Jan 10 very cold didn't go to church. Jan 11 Mrs. Mayo came here to board from N.Y. Jan 15 Aunt Julia taken sick & fell over unconscious for a while but soon revived. Jan 16 called Dr. Greensword for her. I took her meals in the back parlor for her; after tea Pa went up & found her on the floor, he got her up but she couldn't tell how she came there. Jan 17 Miss Hanks & I went up to our church to hear Bev Mr. Howard found the church & galleries full when we got there & had to sit in the gallery. his subject was on the war. Aunt J is still very weak. Jan 20 Mrs. Buckley called to say goodbye as she leaves in the morning for Penn. Mrs. Mayo & I preserved flowers this PM, what success we shall have waits to be seen. Wrote to Erastus. Jan 26 began to take lessons to paint spread of Clara. Jan 27 Mrs M & I opened the box of flowers but they were all dried up. Jan 29 Mrs. Mayo left for home this PM Jan 30 finished stand scarf. Jan 31 Mrs. Hanks, went to our church this morn with Pa & I. Text John 9th the whole chapter. Feb 2nd Clara leaves for N.Y. Dan came this noon. Mary Hanks birthday 34. Rec'd letter from Ida at Syracuse and ans it this eve. sent her Ma's wedding dress to her. Feb 7 Lillie birthday would have been 12. Went to church it was communion day 7 taken in on profession May Wiltsee was one & one by letter. Feb 8 Allen's wife came just after dinner & went up & paid their taxes. Feb 9 Em Millard called, Mary was here to tea. & left for N. Hamburgh at 7 PM. Feb 10 Ida is 28 to day. Feb 11 Pa sent a box of Compound to Allen for a man to try. Feb 12 Wrote to Paulie. Feb 18 John B. Gough died at Phila at 4-40 PM of apoplexy. was tkaen while lecturing at the Presb church there; Mr. James Myers died the 26 of Feb. funeral at Hedding church Sunday Feb. 28th. Feb 19 Fred is 26 to day. sent him I Telegraph & Phoenix. Mar 2 went to our church Sociable. Mar 6 Vilie's oil orchard tank blew up, broke Mr. Wood's arms & hurt him otherways was taken to the hospital Louis Carre's grandson was playing marbles on the walk at the time, was hit with something & broke his arm. Mar 7 Pa & I went to church this morn & marh Hanks & I went to 1st Ref in the eve. Mar 8 rec'd letter from Cy & Ella Mar 16 Annie & Mary Hanks left for home by W. Shore road. Pa & I went down to Ferry boat with them. Mar 21 Cy came this mornign with the Hasbrouck. a rainy disagreeable day. he says Ida is in Huntsville, Alabama, will go from there to Mobile & then to Florida. Cy left for home. this eve on the Miller. Mar 24 Ida Gillen died of consumption. Mar 23 Pa was taken with a billious spell, is very much prostrated, so we have to help him from the chair to the lounge. Mar 24 he is in bed all day. Mar 25 he is some better, & sits up some. Mar 26 Attended Ida Gillen's funeral. this PM at 2039 she was dressed in white and in a white casket & a profusion of flowers. Mr Wilson & Travis officiated. Mar ;28 had a cold & didn't go to church. Pa is getting better. Mar 31st Pa is 84 to day. I gavee him slippers & china cup. April 2 received a letter from Fred & one from Lillie. Mr McCarty died of heart disease. April 4 Mr Spaulding officiated at his funeral at Hedding church, as Travis was to N.Y. to conference. April 9 called to see Helen Everett who is home from a fall & found her father sick. April 10 sent rosebushes to Freds April 11 Pa & I went up to churhc & in PM went to 1st Ref church to Gough Memorial service. Wheeler, Elmendorf, Van Giseon, Spaulding & Browning officiated in eve Ruthie & I went to our church as Spaulding was to preach to the firemen. April 13 wrote to Erastus--sent the Union Signal with Gough Memorial in to Fred. April 18 Pa & I went to church in morn--in PM I called for Lizzie Reynolds to call on Helen Everett found her & her father some better, then we went to Tillie's to tea & I came to our church. April 21st Aunt Julis & I went up to county clerks office to sign her name to the mortgage. April 22 Sent Easter card to Lillie Purdy April 23 36 years today we moved to Po'keepsie. April 24 Johnie Bissel came from Cy's, Ella sent me Ids'a picture. April 27 Peter Bishop died of Paralysis. April 30 went down to depot to meet his corpse, as they burroed him here. Saw Mary but Allen couldn't come as he had sprained his knee resting it on a table to fix something over head; & has to walk with a cane. Tillie Ainsley & children came here to board a few days, as they have broken up housekeeping & will board in Sullivan Co. this summer. May 1st Mary came from N. Hamburgh went back at 7 PM train. May 8 Tillie left for the country this morning. May 9 went to church Pa didn't feel very well & stayed home. the Cateracts have come on his eyes again. I put the drops in & hope they will be better soon. May 16 went to church in morn wrote Ella & Lillie in eve. May 19 Allen came on 10 o'clock train to have some repairs to his house. May 20 moved their things over here & Mrs. Bishops to N. Hamburgh. Allen went home on 7 PM train. May 23 Pa & I went to church May 24 Ella's birthday 25. May 26 went to Maria Thorps dress making. they have a cow she gave me a qt of milk to bring home. I fell down flat on my face but didn't spill the milk. June 6 Artie would have been 21 today if he had lived. Pa & I went to church this morn. I went to see Mr. Thorp who is sick with heart disease. just before church this eve--went to young peoples meeting at 1/4 to 7 & then to church. June 9 commenced cleaning house. June 12 called at Mrs. Spauldings, Thorp, Everett, & Mrs. Hamilton found Mr. Thorp failing. Wrote Fred in eve. June 13 carried a lot of roses up to church at 1/2 past 2 this morn, as it is Children's Day. 5 little children were baptized, & given a boqua. Our church gives every baptized child a bible when they are 7 years old. Two little girls received them to day. June 15 Mary's birth day Allen wife. June 25 Attended commencement of High School at Opera House. Minnie Gillen graduated. July 4 Pa & I went to church this morn. July 2 Sidney and wife, Mattie and Minnie went to Buffalo to Tom Gillen's. July 10 Pa had a stroke of Paralysis. sent for Dr. Payne who hadn't much hopes of him. Charlie Jobes carried him from the lounge to the bed. July 11 Mr. Spaulding called this PM & made a prayer. July 13 Frank Atkins called to see how Pa was. July 14 I went up town, Mr Hanna called while I was away & Mr. Spaulding called when I came back. Pa is improving and had his clothes on today. July 16 had a letter from Allen & one from Ida who is in Albany wishing to know how Pa is. Fred's baby boy born, Frank. July 18 Cy came this morning before breakfast, & left in the night boat for home. wrote to Ida this eve. Jul 28 Pa walked out a little way Flora Vosburgh called. July 25 I went to church & S.S. July 27 rec'd letter from Mary Purdy saying she & Ada were in New Haven & would be here in two weeks. July 28 Ida came from Albany wehre she has been visiting at Mrs. Osborne's for 3 weeks. she & I called at Fred Chichesters & Mr. Thorps this PM. July 29 Ida left for home in the Powel this morn. I went to boat with her. Aug 1st Allen is 52 to day. it is Sunday I went to church, but Pa was not strong enough yet to climb the hill. It is communion day. Airs Daliels was taken in on profession & Mrs. Nobles by letter. rained so didn't go in eve--wrote to Erastus. Aug 2nd Cy is 54 to day. Aug 8 wrote a congratulatory letter to Fred & Lilly. Our church is closed this month so I went to Presb church heard a good sermon from Exodus 3-4. Aug 11 Mrs. Thorp sent for me to go & buy mourning goods & things for them. Aug 12 went up & kept house while they took the corpse to Railway for burrial. Emma Chichester stayed with me till after dinner. about 4 PM, Pa came with cousin Ada. she stayed with me till they came, which was 11 at night. so we got in one of the carriages & got home at 12. found cousin Mary snugly stowed in bed. Aug 13 Corydon's birth day. Friday Mary, Ada &U I started for Hunter & found Will Rusk, at the depot there, with his teams & kindly told us to get in, so he took us to Lois's. called at Annie's in evening. she isn't as well as when she left Po'keepsie. Aug 14 went to Annie's to tea. Lizzie green called Aug 15 went to Presb church this morn Roddie took us over to Camp meeting this PM heard Mr Corey preach. went to Annie's to tea & I stayed the rest went to Lois's saw Amos. etc. Aug 16 we left Hunter for West Camp in 3 PM train, in the rain. it was evening when we got there & it just poured & we had to walk on the track a 1/4 mile, so two young gents kindly escorted us there, our feet were wet & we were thoroughly drabbled. Nov 3 Nell Osborn, Judge Osborn of Catskill died the 1st & was burried to day just two weeks since his mother was burried. Mrs. Osborne called & took me out riding. Nov 18 ex-president Chester Allan Arthur died at his residence 123 Lexington Ave N.Y. at 5 AM of cerebral apoplexy aged 54 years. Julia Kate Chichester died this evening of consumption 3 years ago she had a tumor in her neck, blood poisoning set in, & then consumption. about a month ago the Dr. thought a change of air might benefit her so they brought her here to Mrs West's a nurse to be taken care of. they brought her on a bed. Nov 19 Carrie Douglass came from Claverack where she & Rodney are at school. she came for dress I have been making for her. Nov 20 Carrie went to Schickle's to stay over Sunday. About 7 in the eve Mrs. Jacobs bade her good night, Mrs. Morrows had just come, to sit up with me she asked her if she knew Mrs. Morrows she said yes. that was the last word she spoke. Mr Hoyt called at 10-30 in eve but she was too far gone to speak to him. Dec ;;28 I went Mr Rosepaugh's & got a casket, which was $50. & secured his services--Mr Hoyt called; he kindly consented to officiate at the funeral. Dec 29 funeral at 2-30 PM. about 1/2 an hour before the funeral Pa & Ella came. I was glad to see them. Dec 30 Ella & I went to see the Lawyer that drew up her will. he said it was in her house some where so we went back & searched for it & found it, & took it to the Lawyer he said there could be nothing done till he had notified the nearest of kin, & then Cy & Sarah would have to come up as she witnesed the will & he was executor. She left Cy & I $500, the house & all her personal property, & $77.18 in Savings Bank and we are to pay funeral expenses. We left for home in 4 PM train. Aug 30 paid Allen's water rent $3.00 Lina 7 Em Millard called this morn Aunt Julia rec'd letter from Johnie saying Julia is to start East Sept 4th wrote to Johnie this eve. Aug 31 wrote May Hutton & a postal to Ella. Sept 3 Cy came on the Powel this eve. Sep 4 I went to church in morning in PM Cy & I went to the Cemetery Sept 5 Cy went to May Huttons. found Maria & North there yest but are to leave in a few days for home. Rec'd letter from Fred. Sept 6 Cy went to Saugerties this morn. came here this PM & left for home on the Baldwin this eve. Mrs. Osborn called for me to take a ride this PM we went nearly to Hyde Park in the evening went to meeting. Sept 9 called at Mrs. Eastmeads. Sept 10 Sarah came to Josie's as he is sick. Sept 11 It is 50 years to day since our church was started, so we had a semi Centenial anniversary. Mr Spaulding read a history of the church, how it started in an upper room up town in Main St. in 1837 The pulpit was beautifully decorated with flowers & vines & 1837 & 1887 in evergreens, back of the pulpit. Mr Wiltsie sent invitations to all the ministers that had preached for us but none came but Rev Dr. Alden, who is Secretary of Home Missions, & is to speak of a mission this eve. Clint Mathews read a letter from Mr. Waldo, Mr Carpenter read one from Moses Coit Tyler, Gilford Dudley read one from Mr Lawrence from Paris, & Mr Spaulding read one from Mr Loomis who is away. Mr Waldo is in Mich. Mr Tyler is at Cornell University (Mr Underwood the 1st pastor died a few months ago, Mr James Beecher became insane, & committed suicide 2 or 3 years ago.) Mr Wiltsie made an excellent prayer. We took up a collection & raised $420. we needed $300. but Mr Spaulding was anxious to raise $500 so we could have $200 in the treasury to fall back on. we are to take a collection this eve & hope to swell the $500. Wrote to Ella. Sept 13 sent postal to Sarah & paper to Fred. got letter from Rastus & one from Cornelia. ans Rastus' this evening. Aunt Julia is losing her appetite & is miserable. Sept 17 sent for Dr. Payne for Aunt Julia. Sept 18 didn't go to church this morning as aunt is sick, but went in the eve. Sept 22nd Elmer came from Hunter to attend Eastman's 28 Anniversary at the Opera house, this eve; Carl Schurz the speaker. Sept 23 Elmer went to reception at Mrs. Gaines. Sept 24 Amelia Amerman's birthday. Roddie, & Millie Cameron came from Hunter Allen's wife came this morn. Sept 25 Pa, Roddie, Elmer, Mary and I all went to our church this morn. Millie & Mary went to 1st ME in eve. Nat Freeman & Kittie called this PM. Sept 30 Sarah & Elmer went to Saugerties I went to see Dr. Payne as Aunt Julia don't seem to get along. Oct 1st Aunt is worse seems to be failing fast telegraphed to Erastus. he and Willard came up on 5 PM train and neither knew the other was on the train till they got out at the depot.] Oct 2 Sunday Aunt is still failing. The boys left on the night boat. Oct 3 Aunt is about the same, is flighty at times. Dr says her pulse is a little stronger. Mr Spaulding called & made a prayer which she enjoyed very much. Sarah watches with her to night. Roddie left for Hunter this PM. Oct 4 This is Ma's 86th birth day. Aunt is about the same. Sarah & her mother left on the Powel. Oct 10th rec'd letter from Johnie with a good bye kiss & $5 for flowers. Aunt is failing. I telegraphed at 7 PM to Erastus. Oct 11 my birth day Aunt Julia died at 11-20 this morn. Erastus got here at 1 o'clock & telegraphed to Willard. Erastus & I called to see Mr Spaulding & invite him to officiate at the funeral at 7 tomorrow eve. Oct 12 Willard came on the 10 train this morn just before tea Phebe (Amerman) lent, came & left on 8 train just after the funeral. we had a lovely pillow made for the $5 dollars John sent. Oct 13 Will, Erastus & I left with the corpse for Hunter on the 6-12 W Shore road this morn. got to Hunter at 10-30. went right to Cemetery & burried her then went to Lois's found Elmer there. Oct 14 Roddie's birthday. we left for home on 3 PM train. I got home at 7. but the boys went on home. Oct 16 went to church & B class. wrote Uncle Erastus in PM, telling him of Aunt Julia's death. to church in eve. Oct 17 rec'd Memorial card in remembrance of Aunt Julia Oct 19 went up & got Dr. Payne's bill & sent to Erastus in letter. Oct 20 got letter from Allen Oct 23 went to church this morn & to Bible Class. Went to WCYU this PM to hear Mrs Decker from Victor N.Y. and to our church in the eve. Oct 24 got letter from Ella. Oct 25 wrote Erastus & Ella this eve Oct 27 George Humna's litte Lottie died this morning aged 9 years, of diptheria. I went to prayer meeting this eve. Oct 28 wrote to Lois this evening. Oct 29 it is six years to day since Sate died I went to the cemetery & had a Hyderanger set out. Oct 30 Pa & I went to church this morn wrote to Johnie & Cornelia this PM & sent Hunter paper to John with his mothers death. Went to church in eve. Pa & I went to Opera House, against opening saloons Sunday Nov 7 Aunt Julia would have been 83 to day if she had lived. Josie, Pa & I went to depot to meet Sarah who is on her way to Tacoma going by way of Northern Pacific Road. Nov 8 Election day-a year ago to Aunt Julia & I went up as far as Bridge St & that is the last she went in the street. Mrs. Smith & Lillie came up this morning; this PM we called at Mrs Martin's & Fowlers. Eighmie's shirt factory burned. Nov 9 Mrs S, Lillie & I went up town, this PM called at Josie's & then went to depot as they left on 3-47 train for home. Lizzie Rowland was burried this afternoon; she died Sunday the 6th. Wrote to Ella this eve. Nov 10 Ma's wart got bleeding last night. this morn her head aches & she feels badly so she did not get up till most noon. Wrote to Mrs. Smith this eve shall sleep down stairs to night so if Ma needs me, shall be on hand. they have found 2 boddies that were burned in the Eighmie's shirt factory when boiler exploded, election night & Rusell that had his leg broken by something falling on it died yesterday. Nov 11 The Anarchists, Parsons, Spies, Engel & Fischer were hung in Chicago to day about noon Liung (?) blowed his head off with a bomb in his mouth by touching a lighted candle to it, a few days ago. Fielder & Schwab are to be imprisoned for life. Mrs. Spaulding called this afternoon Nov 13 Pa & I went to church this morn, came home found Ma not feeling as well. I went to church in eve. Sent Weekly Eagle to Fred. Nov 15 Allen came this forenoon to have some repairs done to his house Nov 16 I suppose Sarah has arrived at Fred's by this time. Dec 9 Maggie Beal, & her little girl Ella called & I went with her to call on Ella Martin & Mrs Cassum & Mrs Charles Fowler. I went to Mrs Martin's & spent the eve with Maggie. Dec 10 rec'd letter from Maria saying May had a boy born the 29th of Nov weighted 10 lbs.--Wrote to Lois. Dec 10 Charlie Brooks died Dec 11 went to church & B Class this morn Uncle Sam & I went to Hedding church to YMCA Anniversary Gil Dudley read a chapter, Mr Spaulding gave a splendid address. also M Hannaburgh Ed Platt read the Anual report. & made some appropriate remarks. Dec 12 Josie Bissel & I attended Charlie Brooks' funeral this afternoon. Dec 16 Ma, Pa & I all have colds. Dec 17 wrote to Sam Goodsell this eve we are having the first snow of the season, the ground is covered & it snows like fun. Dec 18 It is 21 years since Allen was married Dec ;19 rec'd letter from Sarah & Fred. Dec 20 Ma waked up just before 1-o'clock with shortness of breath. I thought she would die before I could get anything to help her. as the last resort gave her morphine which soon helped her. I sent for Dr. Payne in the morning Dec 21 Dr came this morn again. Mr Barnes came Dec 22 rec'd letter from Ella & ans it in eve. Dr. came this PM. Dec 24 Rec'd a present of a button pocket from Lillie Smith & Ma, Pa, & I, each, a handkerchief from Ella. A tidy from Emily & some rucking, & Emma Jobes picture from Ruthe. Dec 25 didn't go to church as I have a cold & Ma isn't well. Dec 26 I cooked a turkey as Ma is not able to help. Mr C Barnes of Lowel Vt took dinner with us. Dec 27 it is a year to night since Aunt Harriet died. Dec 29 May Hutton's baby is a month old.
