Julia (Parott) Griffin, & her sister Mrs Elsworth called this afternoon. Cars went over bridge Jan 2nd The Voice came, & the prize with it a book entitled Sweet Cicly, by Josiah Allen's wife. Semantha. Rachel (Edbertson) Hamilton, called this PM. expected Mrs Smith & Lillis but was disappointed. Pa fell over & the chair with him but didn't hurt him. Jan 3rd Mrs Smith & Lillie came on the 5 PM train. Jan 4th Aimley Beynolds died this morn of consumption. Jan 5 Mrs Smith brougth me a new pr of black kids, & Lillie brought me a large bottle of cologne. They left for home on the 3-54 train. Pa went down to breakfast this morning but could hardly get down with help. so staid up sitairs the rest of the day. Jan 6th Pa is about the same, & sleeps most of the time. Rev Mr Hannaburgh fell over in his pulpit this morning just after giving out the hymn, taking the desk with him. Rev Mrs Mead, Mrs Hannaburgh's sister, seeing them bring him home, went in spasms & died Monday noon, her husband didn't get here till after she died. Josie & I went to Ainley Reynolds funeral at 2nd ME Church at 2 PM. poor Lizzie my heart ached for her. Rev Ackerman preached from Ps 116-15. the choir sang his favorite hymns. `Abide with me'. `Lead Though me on'. & Sweet bye & bye'. Jan 7th Mr Hannaburgh is very low, his sister-in-law's death this noon, afficted him. Rec'd postal from Ella. wrote to Elsie this evening. Pa is quite smart again. Jan 9 Mrs Simonson has erysipelas, badly. Rev G.S. Hare died this morning. Jan 10 Rev Mrs Mead's funeral at Hedding church at 2 PM. Mr Hannaburgh is no better. Sent postal to Mrs Smith. Ruthie is quite sick. Jan 12th Tillie, Rena & Mame Price called & while they were here, Mrs Peter Joy called. Jan 13 Sunday a lovely day, like April no snow--called at Tillie's to see Lizzie Reynolds she feels Ainley's death very much. Wrote to Cornelia in the evening. Jan 15 Rec'd letter from Ella; and one from Ida. Ans Ella's this eve. Pa & I called at Josie's & then to Fowlers. It was such a lovely day. I thought it would do him good. Jan 16 Wrote to Ida this evening. Jan 19 Mr Spaulidng called this PM. Jan 20 Sunday stayed home with pa; it commenced snowing about 5 PM. Jan 21 Pa fell over taking the rocking chair with him, & struck against the closet in kitchen but didn't hurt him. Jan 22 Pa fell down this morning. Clara Waring came just before tea. Jan 23 It is 11 months since Ma died. Jan 25 Clara & I went up town. Jan 26 Josie & Bessie went up to Cy's. Jan 27 rained all day did'nt of to church. Mrs Joseph Gillen came in, in the evening. Jan 28 Josie & Bessie returned from Saugerties. Jan 29 Wrote to Allen. Jan 30 Rec'd letter from Allen saying he had sold his house to Mrs Voce for 2400 dolls. Jan 31 Clara left this morn for N.Y. Feb 1st letter from Hester Feb 3 Will Evans preached at Hedding church this morning & evening Uncle went this morn & Josie & I went this evening, he read the 13 Chap of 1st Cor & took his test from the last verse about charity. Feb 4 Saw in the Eagle that Frank Gardiner had been seriously hurt by being dragged by a hand car, breaking his ribs & otherwise injuring him; they took him to the Hospital. Wrote to Paulie this eve to ascertain if it was her papa that was hurt. rec'd letter from Henry Purdy's wife saying her brother Charles had married again. Feb 6 rec'd letter from Paulie saying it was not her papa that was hurt but a young man from Mattiwan. Villa wrote too. Feb 7 Little Lillie would have been 16 to day. Feb 9 Mrs Phillips called on an errand. Feb 10 Ida's birth day. I went to church & Bible class this morn-wrote Fred in eve. Feb 11 rec'd letter from EPIDIDYMIS Amerman, also one from Mary Lanfair saying her Uncle Horace Lanfair died, funeral Feb. 3. Feb 13 Paid taxes--rec'd Valentine from Paulie. bought little book Bright days for Paulie with texts of Scripture & verses-Called at Mrs. Fuller's Mrs John Gillen's Mrs Jo Gillen's Josie's & the Nelson girls. Feb 17 Sundy rained, & is quite warm--did'nt go to church Feb 18 Allen's wife came this noon to pay taxes. Feb 19 Fred is 29 to day--Pa fell over the rocking chair in dining room; he fell backwards. I caught him. Mary staid with the Nelson girls to night. Feb 20 Called at Fred Chichester's. Mary left for New Hamburg, on 7 PM train. Artie Turner called this PM. Feb 23 It is one year to day since my dear Ma died. I miss her yet so much. Feb 24 Sunday--did'nt go to church. wrote to May Hutton in the eveing. Feb 28 Ida came this PM from N.Y.--she & Johnie Bissell went to Opera House to see Charles Gardner's play. Mr Froman is in it. Mar 1st This is a lovely day. Ida left this afternoon for N.Y. I went down to the train with her.00called at Walter Joy's. wrote to Hester this eve. Mar 2 Cy came this evening. Mar 3 Sunday Cy left for home this PM. I went to our church this evening. Mar 4 Benjamin Harrison & Levi P. Morton inaugerated President & Vice President. & not withstanding the rain had a big time. Mar 5 wrote to Ella, & sent N.Y. Press to Fred. 00wrote to mary Thorpe this PM. Mar 7 Pa fell in washroom, with a stroke of paralysis:the sixth one he has had. Charlie Jobes helped get him up stairs; this was at 1 PM. & about 3 he fell again. Uncle & I staid up with him from 12 to night. as he was restless & flighty. Mar 8 Sent for Dr. payne this morning; he has very little hopes of him. Spaulding called. Mar 9 Pa is no better but more comfortable. Lila Spaulding called to see how pa was. Sent postals to Cy, Allen, Ella & Ida. Mar 10 Pa is'nt quite as flighty to day. Paulie Gardiner is9 years old to day. Mar 11 Sarah came this noon, to help take care of pa; we have to watch him day & night or he would get up & then it would take two or three to get him back again. Took T. Gillen to asylum. Mar 12 he is about the same. Spaulding called. Mar 24 at times pa is very flighty. I went up and settled our bill with Mrs Crosby. Mar 14 Pa sat up to have his bed made. Mar 15 Dr says there is no need of his coming any more; he left medicine if he got flighty. Mar 16 Lila Spaulding to see how pa is. We got pa up this forenoon, & drwee him in the back parlor. Sarah left for home this afternoon. Pa got up & walked to back parlor door. Uncle & I had hard work to get him back to bed. he said he got up to get some beans, that Cyrus told him to get some for him to plant. Mar 17 Sunday pa has slept nearly all day.--Mrs. Andrus called this PM. wrote Erastus this afternoon. Mar 18 rec'd letter from Sarah--ans it this PM Mrs Phillips called to see how Pa was; he is quite flighty this afternoon. Mar 20 Pa sat up a while to day Mar 21 Rec'd letter from Carrie Douglass. It is two weeks since pa was taken sick. Mar 22 We have had hard work to keep pa in bed to day. He wanted to go home that this wasn't his house. Mrs. Fowler called John Gillen almost broke his hip yesterday PM by falling in a dithch they had dug for sewer. Mrs Spaulding called this afternoon. wrote Carrie Douglass. Mar 24 Sunday-Pa is flighty yet at times. Mar 26 Phebe Rowley took dinner here. Mar 27 Rec'd letter from Mrs. Smith saying they should move to NY the 1st of May. Uncle Sam rec'd lette from Elsie's saying Lummie Gale died yesterday of consumption; funeral Friday at 2 PM--sent postal for Cy to come down. Mr Hannahburg & wife returned from Florida. Mar 29 Uncle Sam went up to the funeral rec'd letter from Sarah & Carrie Douglass. Mar 30o Pa was quite flighty this afternoon. Cy came this evening. acne rosacea 31 Pa is 87 to day. Sunday. April 1 Cy left for home on 10 oclock train. April 2 Uncle Sam came back this PM. rec'd lette from May Hutton saying they should start for home this week. April 3 wrote to Allen. April 5 Went up town-met Tillie & Bell. Called at Emily Everetts & Lizzie Reynolds'. Pa is flighty. April 6 Mrs. Messie called; pa is more rational. April 7 Sunday Ruthie called also Mrs Strong. Ruth & I went to hear Will Cossum at Babptist church this eve; text Romans 1st--16. April 9 Mr. Spaulding called-wrote to Sarah this eve. Allen's little Gracie would have been 9 years old to day if she had lived. April 11 Pa fell in his room & hit his head and made it ache. April 14 Sunday-went to our church this eve Della went with me-text Mar 11-28. April 16 Pa fell again but only hurt his hand a little. April 17 Went up to see Dr. payne--called on Lizzie Reynolds, & Mrs Osborn, they are all packed ready to move to Albany tomorrow. Hattie Purdy & mother called. April 18 wrote to Hester. April 19 We took pa through Mrs Simonson's & the yard around in the basement to dinner. we had hard work to get him back. April 20 Pa fell at 12-30 last night, he reached out of the bed & fell over, flat on his face; & bruised under the left eye & about 10 this morning he fell from the sofa. while I went down stairs for a moment; he has been quite flighty to day he said he came from Saugerties this morning I asked him how he came he said he came afoot. April 21 I went to easter service to our church this eve--sent the Voice to Fred. April 22 called on Tillie Ainley found them all packed to move to NY called to see how Mr Joy was, found him no better. Mr Mosely's funeral this PM at 2-30. Mrs Jo Gillen called this evening. April 23 rec'd letter from Ella saying May Hutton was going to move to NY wrote to Sarah this evening. April 24 Tillie called this morning to bid us good bye, as they go to NY tomorrow. Wrote to Ella this evening. April 25 rec'd letter from Maria North this morning==wrote May Hutton this eve. April 26 Rec'd from Sarah by ail 2 handkerchiefs April 28 Sunday-rained didn't go to church Rena (Eastmead) Schoffield committed suicide by jumping in the cistern about 10 o clock at night; she had been ill for sometime she leaves 4 children the oldest 8 & youngest 4 months old. Oliver Perry Lewis who committed suicide by jumping in Central Park Reservoir was burried from the 1st Ref Church to day. April 30 Attended Rena' funeral this PM at 3 o clock. Em Chichester died to day. The Centennial of Washington's Inaugeration at New York to day. May 2 Allen & Mary came on 10 train. & left on 7 PM train they came to have deed made out, for their house they solod to Voce. I attended Em Chichester's funeral at the Holy Comforter Church this PM at 2. May 3 Mrs. MaQuinnie called. May 5 went to church this morning Mr C.F. Cutter preached, he was a college mate of Mr Spaulding. wrote to Sarah in the evening. May 6 rec'd letter from Ida. May 7 Lois came this afternoon. May 8 she & I went up town. wrote to Fred in eve, & sent PO order of $50 of his in bank. wrote to Villa to have her come up & bring Paulie to visit with Lois. May 9 Rec'd letter from Villa saying she & Paulie would be up the next day. May 10th Villa & Paulie came on 10 AM train. & left on 3 PM train. Lois & I went to depot. May 12 Lois & I went to our church this evening. May 13 Lois left on 10 AM train West Shore. May 15 Rec'd letter from Hester. May 18 Cy came this evening. May 19 Cy went to church with me this morning. May 20 Cy left on 10 AM train. May 22 Cornelia Merrit called this PM. May 24 Ella's birth day. May 25 I took some roses, & syringa's up to our church. called at Mrs. Spaulding's, McWhinnie Andrus', & Bissell's. May 26 Sunday-didn't go to church. May 30 Mrs. E.B. Osborn called. June 1 Sent some flowers up to church. June 2 Communion day I went & to Bible class Mrs Jo Gillen called this eve. June 3 Jo Gillen commenced Minnie house to day. Rec'd letter from Sarah with one from Lillie enclosed. June 4 Wrote to Sarah this evening June 7 Sent a boquet of roses by Josie to put on Ma's grave. Clara Waring came this evening. June 8 Sent a lot of roses up to our church June 9 Sunday-Children's Day; one child babptized-I went in evening. June 10 Pa fell over in the rose bushes, & the only damage done was dirt all over his face. June 12 Received a paper from Mary Lanfair containing an obituary of & the death of her father; who died the 6th of June. June 14 Dr. Greensword called & gave me his book of poems; entitled the Conflict between Truth & Error. he took tea with us. June 16 Sunday didn't go to church wrote Mary Lanfair this evening. June 19 Lizzie Reynolds called this eve. June 21 mary came up on the Powerl. June 22 Mary left on 6-4 am train for Sugerties. They all leave this noon for Hunter- rec'd letter from Henry's wife The Everett girls called this afternoon. June 23 Went to church this morning. wrote to Ida in the evening. June 26 Sarah came this evening Mrs. Hayes died. June 27 Sarah left for home on 3 PM train. I went to prayer meeting this evening. 29 June Mary came from Saugerties this noon & left for N. Hamburgh this PM. June 30 Went to church this eve. July 2 Pa fell coming down the stone steps July 3 Clara came & The patient was prepped and draped in lithotomy position utilizing Betadine distally with Lidocaine jelly instilled per urethra. me $7. July 4 The Germantown Band came here on an excurtion. Fred Van Leuven & wife & baby & Lottie Overbaugh came with them it rained so Maggie & baby didn't come to see us. Fred & Lottie did & Uncle & I went to the boat to see them off. Pa fell this eve on the floor, but didn't hurt him. fire works this eve all around us. July 6 Emily Everett called. Pa fell in the yard. July 7 went to church this eve-a man who is attending Moody's school in Northfield & is from near the garden of Eden gave us an account of his native land & was dressed in his native costume. July 8 Cy's weding anniversary. Pa fell this noon in the yard & hurt his face. Mary Scoffield called this morn & Rena Ainley this afternoon. July 12 It is 33 years to day since Uncle Ira died. July 13 Went up to see Dr. payne about Pa's hand it is swelling; he said bathe in alcohol and water. July 14 Did'nt go to church but Mary Schoffield & I rode down to cemetery. & walked back she took tea with us. July 15 Rec'd letter from Ida, also one from Ella saying she arrived home at 3 PM Friday. July 18 Helen Fairchild called this morning July 20 Cy came at 5 PM. July 21 he went home on 7-20 train this eve I went to church this evening text ISam 6-12. July 22 Allen came to spend a vacation of a week. July 24 Mr Spaulding called this afternoon. Mary Fincher dronwed herself this morning in the river at Fishkill Landing. Aug 7 Minnie Gillen married to Wm Skull at 5 this afternoon. Aug 8 Mrs Longfield & I went to Mr Joy's funeral thie PM & then Frank Longfield met us & we all called at Mrs Flwler's. Josie & Frank called this eve. Aug 10 Rec'd letter from Ella, with PO order Mrs Bourne & daughter called this PM. Aug 11 Uncle & I took pa to Hedding church this morn Mr Hannaburgh preached from John 15-5. Wrote Ella this eve. Aug 13 Corydon's birth day-Jamine Griswold & her two sons, Harry & Charlie & daughter Mamie came on noon boat. Aug 14 Pa was taken sick this morning vomiting before he got up; & continued to do so till I gave him clam juice. Telephoned for Dr. Payne but he didn't get it-Blanshan went for him in the evening; he came about 9 o clock; & left medicine for him. Our cousins left on noon boat for home. Aug 15 Pa is some better. Dr came this morn but do'nt think it necessary to come again. Aug 16 Pa was dressed, & sat up to day. Mr G.K Lawrence died of apoplexy thids morn at 6, he fell in his shop about 5 PM yesterday, & remained unconscious till he died. Aug 17 Pa went down stairs to day. Aug 18 Sunday-went up to WCYU this PM. Mrs Lyster led the meeting, a reformed drunkard spoke, said the Lord had converted him & talem awau jos a[[etote fpr ;oqipr * tobacco. wrote to Allen this evening. Aug 19 Attended Mr Lawrence funeral at 3 this afternoon. Mr Spaulding officiated. Also a minister from Caanan. Carrie (Rowland) Cossum, Amy Ellison & two gentlemen sang, æNearer My God to thee' & another piece--called at Everett's. Aug 20 Emily came down & helped me on muy drses. Mr Hannaburgh called. Aug 23 It is a year & a half since ma died Emily came & helped on my dress again. Aug 24 Cy came this PM. Aug 25 Sunday-Cy left for home this noon & took Frank Bissell with him. wrote Maria North this eve. C. Merritt called.. Aug 26 sent Voice to Lillie Purdy. Aug 27 Have just heard of death of Hroatio Lockwood. Ida passed here on her way to Utica this noon. Aug 31st Uncle took Pa as far as rail road bridge. Sept 1st Went to church this morn, it seemed good to go again after vacation. Sept 5 went to prayer meeting Rev. Mr. Lawrence was there he leaves tomorrow for his new charge in Baltimore. Sept 6 May Hutton came with Willis & left for home on the Powerl. Sep 7 Mr Spaulding called his afternoon. rec'd letter from Sarah. Sept 8 went to church this evening. Rev Mr. Johnson came in at 8 & solicited aid for the colored orphan home in Brooklyn. Sept 9 rec'd letter from Sadie Douglas. Sept 10 wrote to Sarah. Sept 11 wrote Sadie Douglas. Sept 12 Irvie Gale died this morn of membranous croup. Sept 13 Called at Mrs. Freeman's met Wm. Freeman's daughter Mary there. Sept 14 Pa fell in the airy & struck on the back of his head. Uncle left on the 2-15 train for Germantown to attend Irvie's funeral which is to be tomorrow at 2 PM Sunday, rec'd letter from J Griswold. Sept 15 Mrs Jo Gillen called this evening. wrote to Jane Griswold. Sept 17 wrote to Sarah. Sept 18 Uncle Sam came from Germantown this afternoon. Sept 19 Pa fell over backwards against the kitchen door & broke the key off. got letter from Ida, ans it this eve. Zitta Conda called this eve. rec'd letter from Sadie Douglas. Sept 22 went to church this morning & Bible Class. wrote Lois Douglas this evening. Pa picked a Jacquminot rose from Allen's bush today & we picked one from it in July. Sept 24 Eliza Wakely came this afternoon & took tea here & left on the Power. Minor Reynolds died this morning of nervous prostration & heart trouble. Sept 26 Sarah & her mother came this noon. Sept 27 I attended M Reynolds funeral this PM & Sarah & I heard Will Carleton at Eastman's Anniversary at Opera House this evening. Allen's wife came this afternoon. Uncle went to the Fair. Sept 28 Sent carpet & other things to Fred. Sarah left on boat this morn, Mary left this PM wrote to Fred this evening. Sept 29 Went to church & Bible Class this morn. wrote to Elsie in evening. Oct 1st rec'd letter from Ida, & ans it. Oct 3 rec'd letter from Ella & one from Jane Griswold. Ruthie Potter died this evening. Oct 4 Ma would have been 88 today if she lived. Lizzie Reynolds called. wrote Ella this evening. Oct 5 went in Minnie's new house. Pa sung in bed Doxology. Oct 6 didn't go to church at it rained. Called at Mrs. Phillips this PM. Oct 11 my birth day & two years since Aung Julis died. sent Eagle Souvenir to Cy, Allen, Ella, Fred & Henry. Oct 13 went to church this morning Mr. Mac Knight one of Mr. Spauldings old pupils preached for us. he is from Conn. Oct 14 Mr. John Hamilton Ret. Egbertson's husband died. Oct 16 Lizzie Caire married to Ed Conda at 5 this PM. also Lula Brooks to ______ at the same hour & Bell Hewitt to ___ Cowan at 8 PM Ella Mellor died about 7 this morning of consumption. Pa fell as he was going up the steps by the cooler. Oct 17 rec'd letter from Ella attended Mr. Hamilton's funeral at 2 PM. he died suddenly called on Fannie Gardiner & Helen Everett. Pa fell while I was out. Oct 19 Ella Mellor buerried from Holy Comforter. Oct 20 went to church this morn, Rev Mr. Eddy was there, also Rev. Mr. King who is having a cong'l church built at Newgurgh. Allie Smith aged 18 son of Arabella (Wright) Smith died of fever at Denver Col, was brought on here funeral at Frank Van Keuren's this PM at 2-30. wrote to Ella this evening. Oct 21 Rec'd an invitation to Rodney Douglas wedding which is to take place at Little Falls Wednesday Oct 30 at 10 AM. her name is Arminia Marguerite Garlock. Oct 22 Henry Purdy's birthday Oct 23 It is a year & 8 months to day since Ma died. rec'd a letter from Mary, with Henry's and her pictures. Called on Ret Hamilton and Lizzie Reynolds. Oct 24 went to our church Roll Call this evening the lecture room was full. Oct 25 wrote to Coz Mary Purdy this eve after we got pa to bed, he said "do you hear the birds sing?" I said no. he said æI do'. & thought it strange I couldn't hear them & wanted me to read in the Bible so I read several Psalms. Oct 27 Sunday didn't go to church as it rained. Oct 29 Rec'd a letter from May Hutton saying her grandpa North died about two months ago. Oct 30 Roddie married at 10-30. I suppose. wrote to May Hutton this evening. Oct 31 Rec'd letter from Ella. Nov 1 Commenced painting my lamberquin. Pa said to me this PM "You know I am getting old & can't live a gret while. I want to make some provision for you." I said don't worry about me, for I shall keep the house as long as I live, to live on, & after me, it will go to my brothers. Nov 3 Sunday--rained all day, so didn't go to church --wrote to Sarah in the evening. Nov 4 F. Inman died was born Nov 7, 1827. Nov 5 Election day, they sent a carriage fo9r pa; he got it in his head that he ought not to vote, that he was not a resident here; that we lived in Saugerties. and we couldn't get it out of his head till he had voted. Artie Turner called here this morning. wrote Ella this eve. Nov 8 Clara Waring came this PM. Nov 9 Cy came this evening. Nov 10 Sunday--Cy left on 7 PM train. Wrote Fred this eve & sent bill of shipping. Nov 11 REc'd letter from Lillie Purdy. Nov 12 Rec'd letter from Mrs. Smith. Nov 14 Clara & I called on Artie Turner. Nob 16 Uncle Sam went to W. Camp this morning. Nov 17 Went to church this eve. Clara stayed with Pa. It is 42 years since we were burned out. Nov 20 Rec'd letter from Ella--had a chimney sweep clean our chimney this pm for #5. Nov 23 It is a year & 9 months to day since Ma dided. Uncle Sam came home from W. Camp this pm. Nov 24 Sunday--didn't go to church. it rained. Nov 25 Clara left for N.Y. she gave me one of her books. Nov 28 Thanksgiving Day--we had chicken pie & tapioca pudding. Dec 1 Communion day-went to church & Bible Class. Dec 8 Sunday Pa wasn't able to go down stairs to day--was so stiff, & feeble, but was dressed. Dec 9 got letter from Fred. Dec 11 Ida came about noon from Saugerties & left on night boat for NY Pa went downstairs to dinner for the first since Saturday. John Brooks died the 9th at 4 in the morning of Congestive Fever, was sick but two weeks; funeral this pm at Hedding church at 2-30, he was 83 years old. Dec 12 Called on Mrs. Strong & Bissel. Dec 13 Pa fell down between 2 chairs.--he walked out in the yard this afternoon. Dec 14 Recommended Dr. Kendrick died of asthma, & heart trouble funeral this am at 11. at Babptist church. Dec 15 we all have colds so didn't go to church wrote to Fred & Lillie this evening. Dec 16 Sent some picture cards to Frank & Florence. Dec 17 Wrote to Ella this evening. Dec 18 Allen's wedding anniversary. Carrie Douglas came this noon. wrote to Paulie this evening. Dec 19 Carried left for Wappengers Falls this afternooon.--wrote to Mrs. Smith this eve. rec'd letter from Paulei this morning. Dec 21 Paulie sent me some edging she had crocheted for me an apron. letter from Elsie. Dec 22 Sunday--rained--didn't go to church as I had a bad cold. wrote to Elsie this eve. Dec 23 It is a year & 10 months since Ma died. Dec 24 Rec'd letter from May Hutton & scent bag from little Willie. and 2 handkerchiefs & a tidy from Ella. I sent Uncle up to Emily's with a procelain panel that I painted for Helen; & Emily sent me her photo & a bag of candies. Santa Claus has remembered me pretty well. Wrote to Paulie, & sent her a scent bag. Dec 25 Emma Jobes came in this morn with a lot of Christmas presents, nuts candies, oranges, & a crazy holder she made for me. got letter from Cy. In the evening Charlie Jobes came in for me to go in there & eat cream, & gave me 3 oranges. Dec 26 Sent the Voice to Fred. wrote to Ella & sent her a sachet roling pin. Dec 27 It is three years to night since Aunt Harriet died.--Wrote May Hutton & sent an ABC book to Willie for New Year's. wrote to Cy & Sarah. Mary made us a flying call this pm she came up to New Hambrugh to see her sister Em who was sick. Dec 29 Sunday--didn't go to church as it rained. Dec 30 Cy came this noon. 1890 Jan 1st 1890. New Year's day Cy left for home on 6-28 train. Sent sachet bag to Ida. Jan 2 Elsie & Gale came this noon and left for home on the 6-30 train. George said he was to be married at about 6 this eve, to Capt Purdy's daugheter, at the Hedding Parsonage, & asked to to go over, but I couldn't as I had a cold. Jan 24 Eva Gillen died this morning just after 7 of consumption of bowels. Mr Longfirle fell in his room, & broke his colalr bone. "You better takea a lamp down". he hasn't seemed as well to day is more helpless and has slept most of the day. Mar 2 Sunday went to church & Bible Class. this afternoon rec'd telephone from Wappingers falls saying Carrie Douglas died there yesterday morning. of Typhoid fever & heart failure. Lois was sick & couldn't go down so Wm & Marguerite went, stayed till after was laid out then went home as they were anxious about Lois. Mar 3 Mr Bartram & family went up with the corpse this morning at 10AM. Ella came on the BRidge road, arrived her at about 10 this evening. Mar 4 Ella left on 6-8 train for the funeral which was at 11 o'closk this forenoon. Wrote to Lois this evening Mar 5 Carrie Meritt called this afternoon. wrote to Allen this evening. Mar 6 We are having almost a blizzard--snow about 6 in deep. Ella came from Saugerties this expecting to leave for Meriden at 11 AM but but the wind blew & it snowed so she waited till afternoon, it cleared off & the sun shone out. She got up there in time for the funeral which was at the house. Mar 7 wrote to Paulie this eve & told her about Carrie's death. Mar 9 Sunday went to church & B Class. Lizzie Reynolds called this afternoon & we called to see MR Longfield found him very low. Mar 10 called to see Mr Longfield he said he longed to go home & be at rest; he is only waiting. Mar 13 Pa is worse of his cold, didn't get up till afternoon. seems all filled up put mustard on; gave him salts, & flax seed tea. also Aconite; if he isn't better in morning shall send for the Dr. called on Minnie Gillen Scull, who came home last night. wrote Ella this eve. Mar 14 Pa is worse sent for Dr. Payne who says it is very near pneumonia. wrote to Allen. Pa has kept his bed all day; is so filled up with mucus but can't raise it Della was taken sick to day. Mar 15 Pa is not as well today, hasn't opened his eyes to day nor spoken till about 4 PM then said yes to a question I asked him. Mr Spaulding called, but I could not arouse him to see him, nor the Dr. Mar 16, Sunday Cy came this morning. Dr says pa seems more like paralysis now. we can't arouse him, & doesn't open his eyes yet, but did swallow a little beef tea. wrote to Allen last night we though he couldn't live till morning. Mar 17 Monday Pa died this evening at ten minutes past 8. very peacefully & easy. Mar 18 Mary Gillen & Lizzy Reynolds called this evening. Sarah came this afternoon. I was writing him when it came to know why he didn't come & had just sent it when in he came. I threw my arms around him & we both sobbed & cried like children. Arrived at Saugerties a little after 8. found all well. May 18 Sarah & I went to Cong'l church this morn. she introduced me to Mr & Mrs La Grandge. Ida went with me in the evening to the same church. May 20 Mr. LaGrandge called this morn to let me know what time they left for the Cong'l Convention at Middletown which was 3:30 p.m. as I was to go with them, & visit Frances Inman, in the meantime. Arrived at the church about 8 in the evening; they sent a boy with me to W Inman's neither Wm nor Frances knew me. she was recovering from a fever. May 21 Visited all the morning with Frances, & in the afternoon she sent her girl to show me the way to the church. I liked the speakers very much especially Mr. Mathews from the West, on Mormanism. I met Mr. Dudley, & Mr & Mrs. Spaulding, who were very much surprised to see me. May 22 Spent the morning with Frances, again & at 2 p.m. bade her good bye, & left for the church was very much interested in Mr Montgomery's address on the Scandinavian's. Mr LaGrandge then informed me that it was time to go , as we were to leave on the 4-42 train for Saugerties. Arrived here a little after 8 in the evening. May 24 Ella's birth day. In speaking of the presents the queen of Sheba brought to king Solomon, the gold alone would have been three million dollars, & the spices & precious stones would be as much more; & then to think of her taking the journey of 75 miles on a camels back to see Solomon in all his glory was wonderful. July 16 went to Ella's to help quilt; left Lois & Kate home; & when I was taking off my things, in they walked to my great surprise. July 17 Ella & I went up to Lois' an elocutionist was there, & gave some fine & humorist recitations. July 18 we finished the quilt & I went to Lois' after tea, & we all went to Central House to a flower lawn party & in the house were music & refreshments. Sept 10 a great time preparing for the wedding which is at 1 at ME church we had refreshments before going there. it rained but every thing passed off very nicely, only George was too sick to come. Oct 28 Just as I was getting ready to go to Conn, in walked Uncle Sam; & when he found where I was going, said I go too. so we left on 11 a.m. train, for Meriden & took Ella by surprise. Oct 29 Uncle left on 9 a.m. train for Middletown. Oct 31 Ella & I went shopping, & to the Britania Works. Nov 2 Ella, Miss Burdick & I went to Cong'l church Mr Anderson pastor. Nov 4 Left for Fair Haven. Ella & Mrs Morehouse went with me to the depot; arrived at Mary Lanfair's just before dinner; in the afternoon Mary * I called on the cousins. Nov 5 Mary & June got a carriage, to go on East Rock & East Haven; just as we were ready to start, about came Uncle San, & Lutie Tuttle; so Uncle went with us & drove; had a delightful ride, & view from the Rock; then drove to East Haven; saw Kirkum & Nellie, but her mother was at Horace's. Nellie was to go for her in the afternoon & said she would call & take me there. her mother is 91. She seemed pleased to see me. Nov 7 Went to Mary Lindsley's to spend the day; in the evening, she, Minerve, Uncle, & I, called at Sam Goodsell's at Westville. Nov 8 We 4 went to N.Haven to call & to the museum. Wrote Ella. Nov 21 Left for NY this morning on the boat--Continental. Had a lovely time while we were gone, visited at 12 places. While in NY visited Allen's Smith's, Ainley's & Allen, Mary & I visited at Erastus's in Brooklyn. Dec 11 Left for Po'keepsie on 11 a.m. train took tea at Josie's & stayed all night. went to prayer meeting in the evening. Dec 13 Sunday, went to church & S.School. went to Fowler's to dinner & supper. stayed to Partricks all night. Dec 15 Took tea to Everett's, & spent the night. Dec 16 Took dinner & supper to Gillen's as Clara & I were painting. Dec 18 spent the day, & night, to Ruthie's. Dec 19 called at Mr Smillie's & Spauldings. Dec 20 Left for Saugerties. Dec 23 Dave came. Dec 24 Ella came & brought things for the Christmas tree. Dec 25 Had a large Christmas tree, which delighted the children, & older ones too as Santa Claus had remembered us all very bountifully. Dec 26 Ella left on 11 a.m. train. 1891 Jan 1 1891. Wrote Allen & we all wrote Ella. Jan 7 Ida had a little girl born this evening at 1/4 past 9. Ida is very sick. Jan 8 The baby doesn't seem very well. Jan 9 Baby died at 4 this morning of dropsy & heart failure; they feel very badly, it was such a disappointment! Jan 10 Ida mourns for her baby. Jan 11 Saturday Fred, & Lillie, took the baby to Po'keepsie & put it in the vault till spring then Ida, & Dave will go down. Mr LaGrandge came at 10 this morn & read some texts of scripture & made a prayer before they took baby away. Its name is Mildred Grant Peyser. Jan 18 Ida sat up for the first, just to have her bed made. Jan 19 Dave left for NY. I wrote Mrs. Smith. Jan 22 Dave came this morning. Jan 24 We moved Ida in Lillie's room, while I swept her room. Henry Purdy came this noon; quite a surprise! Jan 25 Sunday morning found it snowing thought we were going to have a blizzard but it cleared before noon so Henry, Fred, & I went to church in the evening. Jan 26 Henry left on 11 a.m. train for NY on his way to Atlanta, Ga where he is to start a chair factory for a company at a salary of @2000 a year his family are to move in the spring. wrote to his wife this evening. Jan 27 Dave left for NY this morn. Jan 28 Rec'd letter from M. Lanfair. wrote Lois. Dave came just after we had retired. I was sleeping with Ida, so had to vacate. Feb 1 Sunday Mrs Buckley & I went to church & B Class this morn & Sarah & I went in the evening. Fannie Douglas husband died. Feb 2 Dave left for NY this morn. Feb 3 Ida comes downstairs once or twice a day now. wrote Paulie this evening, had a letter from Fowler. Feb 4 Wrote May Hutton. Feb 7 Ida left for NY on 11 a.m. train they are to board at his aunts. Feb 8 Sunday-had another big snow storm, so didn't go to church. Feb 9 Another snow storm, the trees are loaded they are splendid; got letter from Paulie. Sarah got a postal from Dave saying Ida got there all right. Feb 10 Ida's birth day--rec'd letter from M Hutton. Feb 11 George & Helen drove down in a sleight for Fred's folks. Feb 20 Cy, Fred & I went to Cong'l church to hear Rev H.L. Hoyt on Southern California. It is wonderful country, sometimes called the American Garden of Eden. Feb 21st Fred & family left for Po'keepsie. Feb 22 Sunday Mrs. B & I went to church. this morning Mr. Hoyt preached, he officiated at Aunt Harriets funeral. LaGrandge & wife were absent so I taught her class. Cy, Sarah & I went in evening. Feb 23 LaGrandge had his illustrations & views on the screen of Washington at Valley Forge & other scenes of the Revolution, 80 in all. 3 years since Ma died. Feb 25 Rec'd a letter from Fowler & one from Ruthie & ans hers this evening. Feb 27 Helen & George came; & just after Uncle S & Ruthie came from Po'keepsie, she left for home on 5.29 train Sarah & I went to depot. Feb 28 Fred's folks came this noon. Mar 1st Sunday. it is a year since Carrie died. Mrs Buckley & I went to church this morn & to B Class. Mar 2 we went to the descriptive views. Mar 3 Went down to Po'keepsie to see about renting the house; I let the same familie stay. Mar 5 Came to Rondout to visit May Hutton. Mar 6 May & I spent the pm to Janie Hutton's They brought us back in a sleigh. Mar 7 Janie Hutton spent the day at May's I left for Saugerties on 6 pm train. Mar 8 Mrs B & I went to church & B Class. Sarah & Mrs B & I went in eve to see the views on the prodigal son. Mar 9 Cy, Fred, Lillie & I went this evening to see the views; it was the 10 virgins but it was so rainy it was postponed. Mar 10 We went this eve they were splendid. Mar 13 a year ago pa was taken with a cold. Fred and family left on 4 pm train to Highland where they took the Miller for New York to get their tickets for Tacoma. Went to tempra lecture Mar 19 They left NY on 6 pm train on Central road, passed here at 10-30 pm Mar 20 they got to the Suspension Bridge at 7 am & at Toledo at 10-30, had to wait there till 11 pm. Cy Sarah & I went to ME Church to hear Rev Dean of Coxackie on the Progressive Man. Mar 22 Sunday, Mrs B & I went to church & S.S. I taught a class. The churches all unite at Ref. church to hear Rankin on Temprance but it rained so we didn't go. Mar 23 we all went to Ref church to hear Rankin on temperance. Mar 24 Rec'd letter from Allen & one from Lanfair saying Horace had got back from Florida. Ans Allen's letter. Mar 25 We all went to Cong'l church to hear Mr Rankin on Temperance. Mar 26 we went again this eve to hear Rankin Mar 27 Cy, Sarah & I went to ME church to hear Rev Dr. Osborn on the Passion Play as he saw it in Germany. Mar 29 Sunday, Sarah, Mrs B & I went to church this morn to hear an Easter sermon. the flowers were very nice. Cy Mrs B & I went in the evening to the S.S. concert. Dr La Grandge had 20 photographs of the Passion Play which were taken last summer, which were thrown on the screen making it seem more real. I taught Mrs. La Grandge as she was away. Miss Suderly & I went to Episcopal church in pm Mar 30 Sarah & I called on Mrs Johnathan Myre's this pm. Mar 31 Pa would have been 89 to day if he had lived. Ap 1 Dave, & Ida came this morning. Ap 2 Found several in of snow this morn on the ground, which looks quite wintery. Wrote to S. Fowler. Ap 4 rec'd letter from Ella Ap 5 Sunday went to church but it was closed as LaGrandge has the Grippe, so went to Babptist church & to Ref'd in the evening. Ap 9 Miss Suderly called for Mrs B & I to go to prayer meeting. Sarah was taken with Grippe this eve. Ap 10 is no better so Ida sent for D Daws. Ap 12 Sunday I was taken with it Sarah gave me a sweat. Ap 13 Cy came home sick so she gave him a sweat. Ap 14 I went down to tea this afternoon. Ida thought she was getting it, so took a sweat. Ap 15 Cy went to work this morn. I wrote Ella. Ap 17 Cy came home sick. a terrible headache. Ap 18 Cy's head is better but the grippe's no better. Ap 19 Sunday--none of us able to go to church but Dave & I, they went to the Ref'd this morn. Miss Suderly called to see how we were. Ap 20 We are all in the same boat yet. Ap 25 Sarah went with her mother to Po'keepsie she went to the cemetery to make arangements for burring Ida's baby so she wrote to Dave & Ida to be at the cemetery at 2 pm Monday. Ap 26 Cy & I are gaining slowly. Ap 27 Dave & Ida left for Po'keepsie on the 11 am train. The Supt told Sarah they had so many funerals, they couldn't get time to take the bodies out of the vault. They came back on the 7-30 train this eve. Sarah says she saw in Josie's paper the death of Mrs. Simonson. They broke ground at Riverside Park for the Grant Monument it being his birthday, he has been dead 6 years Ap 28 Rev WILL CALL FOR RESULTS NEXT WEEK Smith died of Grippe in NY. his remains were brought to Po'keepsie for interment, his wife and daughter are down with the Grippe & not able to follow the corpse. I went down to see them off, & when I got back found Lois here; & that Mrs Bartram & Kittie had been here & left me invitation to visit her. I called on the Nelson girls & Mrs John Gillen. Annie L Poole sang a Solo. Miss Julia Propson recited The Veteran & his grand son. Miss Carrie L. Gibson recited Sheridan's Ride. Recitation by H. W. Grady they were all interspersed with singing. May 31 Sunday, went to church & BC. they all seemed glad to see me back & I was glad to get back. Lois didn't go as she wasn't very well. Lois & I left on 8-4 train for Wappengers stopped to see Julia Griffen, then went to Em Millord's to dinner, then took the 1-o'clock stage for Wappengers found the Bartram's all well. June 2nd took a walk this morn and called at Mrs. Nicolas. Jun 3 Mrs Bartram & Kittie took us to ride this pm, then we visited the Library. & took tea at Mrs Nicolas, & her sisters Miss Pierce. Mrs Harcourt, & daughter Mrs Van Wyck were there, hurried back in eve as a thunder shower was coming up. June 4 Lois & I left for home at 8 am in Wappinger stage Mrs G sick so can't board me. June 5 Lois left for home on 1-55 train we took dinner at Fowler's. June 7 Sunday-went to church & B Class. after dinner went to see how Mr Longfield is found him sitting in a chair, came home, and wrote to Dave & Ida. Dec 25 Christmas-found a hemstitched handkerchief with my initial on, under my plate to the table this morn. called at Josie's, Gillen's & Fowler's wrote to Frankie Purdy. Dec 27 Sunday went to church Spaulding gave us a Christmas sermon this morn, this noon we rehearsed our Christmas Carols instead of Sunday School. went to C. Endeavor this eve, we had a Christmas Concert after; had singing, recitations & Spaulding made some very appropriate remarks. Auntie Brinkerhoff died aged 94. Dec 28 Wrote Ida. Dec 29 Mrs. Brinkerhoffs funeral to day. Dec 30 Spent the day at Emily Everett's. Dec 31 The last of the Old Year. Good Bye. 1892 Jan 1st 1892. God grant that we may have less Intemperance, murders, suicides, insanity, cranks, & Grippe. & that temperance, christianity, & good healthy may take their places. Spent the day to Josie's; Henry came home sick. Jan 2 Commenced Ida's silk quilt, have a cold. Jan 3 Sunday my cold is more like the Grippe sent for Dr. Payne. Jan 4 Rec'd a letter from Mrs. Smith, saying Mr S sick with Grippe. Jan 5 Got a letter from Ella saying Fred had another little voter a republican! both the 20th of Dec. Wrote Mrs Smith Susie Schriver called. I am some better. Jan 6 Sent Witness to Fred. Alexander Clady buerried to day. Wm Rensley died aged 97. Jan 7 Mr Walter Strong died at 11 this morn aged 77. Jan 8 Mr Stephen Brown buerried from Hedding Church this pm. Jan 10 Sunday, am not well enough to go to church.--Mr Strong's funeral was at 1-30 pm. Isie came yesterday morn. Wrote Ella. Jan 11 Charlie Reynolds died this morning. Aged 40. wrote to Allen. Jan 12 Rec'd letter from Allen. Jan 13 C Reynolds buerried this pm Eddie Savage & Frank Basley were bearers, all three were my old scholars. Fred Gillen sick with Typhoid fever. Emma Jobes sick, consumption of bowels. Jan 15 Snowed all day. Julia Parrot buerried to day. Jan 17 Sunday-I am quite smart but not able to go to church. Wrote to Mary Lindsley. Jan 19 Fred Gillen thought to be dying this morn but has ralleed some. Jan 20 The Nelson girls called. Jan 21 Susie Schriver called. got letter from Lillie, & enclosed was a letter from Frank, & Florence. Wrote to Lillie this evening. Jan 22 Sent Witness to Fred. Fred Gillen died between 5 & 6 this eve. I went out for the first since I was sick called at Fowlers, Bissells, McWhinnie & Ruthie. Jan 23d Mr Simonson called. Jan 24 Sunday-did'nt go to church it is so damp. did'nt think it prudent. wrote Paulie & Lois. Jan 25 Fred Gillen's funeral this pm at 2-30 I did'nt go as it was typhoid. got letter from Sarah & one from Ella saying Fred is foreman in a planing mill & gets $1.00 per month. Emily Everett called this morn. ==finished Ida's quilt Ella writes that Hattie Purdy is dead. wrote Allen. Jan 26 Mrs. McWhinnie called. Jan 27 Rec'd letter from Lois, Delia Hill, Jessie Wright-went to Denver married this morn. Jan 28 Sent Witness to Fred. Jan 29 Called to Josies & congratulated her pa, it being his 90th birth day; called at Signors to see Mrs Strong as she leaves for Albany tomorrow. Wrote Ella Spaulding called. END OF JOURNAL
