I, John Gay, of Crum Elbow precinct in Dutchess County , ___. Being sick and weak of body but of sound mind memory and understanding blessed be god calling unto mind the frailty of my body do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. First and principally I recommend my soul to God my Creator hoping for salvation through Jesus Christ my redeemer and my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner and as for such worldly estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me I will and dispose of the same in manner and form following Impremis. I will that all my first debs and funeral charges be fully paid and satisfied out of my estate by my executors herein after named within some convenient time after my decease. Item. I give and devise unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Gay, all my personal or movable estate of what kind so ever to her, her heirs and assigns forever. Which shall not be sold for payment of my debts excepting my gun and tools, which I will to my youngest son Parent. Item. I give devise and bequeath unto my son William Gay a small piece of meadow lying to the westward of our house and shop. To begin at the south west corner of two acres of land which I formerly conveyed to my said son William. Thence westerly to the foot of a hill then northerly along the foot of the hill, until it comes to the northwest corner of said two acres more or less to have and to hold to my said son William Gay his heirs and assigns forever. This also not to be subject to the payment of my debts. Item. My wife is and I do ordain and order, that my executors or the major part of them shall dispose of all my real estate not before willed to my son William within a convenient time after my decease. Item. I hereby give full power and ____ and absolute authority to agree for bargain with and dispose to any person or persons whatsoever all any land and tenements lying in Crum Elbow precinct in Dutchess County for such so consideration moneys as they shall think proper and con___ and sufficient and lawful deed or deeds. Conveyance or conveyands and _____ in the law whatsoever for the same to make seal & deliver to such purchaser and purchasers and the money arising by said sale or sales to be laid out in paying all my first debts and the residence of such moneys I give for the use of my wife for her maintenance during her life and after her decease such and all other my estate real and personal (except what is willed before) I give will & devise unto my sons William, Thomas and Parent my granddaughter Elizabeth Gay and daughter of my son John Gay deceased my daughters Mary and Margaret and my grandson John Pond son of my daughter Elizabeth deceased and to their several and respective heirs and assigns forever each one equal seventh part share and share alike and in case any of my said sons Daughters, granddaughters and grandsons should happen to die, under age without lawful issue or last will and testament, then my will is that such share or share be equally divided among the survivors share and share alike. Lastly, I appoint for executors of this my last will and testament my wife Elizabeth Gay my son William Gay and Parent Pond to be executors of this my will.
