The twente first day of Sept. Amm. Domini One Thousand and Eight hundred and fourteen. I Elijah Morgan of Poughkeepsie in the County of Dutchess and State of New York. Gentleman, comtemplating my mortality and having the perfect exercise of my reason think it expedient to dispose of my worldly estate by will and do according make and declare the following to be my last will and testament viz Imfirmis. I order all my just debts and funeral charges to be paid Then I order and direct that Twenty five Hundred Dollars be put out on Interest with goods security, the interest of which to be paid to my beloved Wife Levina annually during her life- Also I give to my said Wife one of my best beds and bedding with a Mahogany desk that I have now by me. Item I give to my Son Hatfield Seventeen Hundred and Fifty Dollars Item I give to my Son Gilbert Seventeen Hundred and Fifty Dollars. Item I order and direct that Seven Hundred Dollars be put to interest on goods security and the interest there of be paid to my Daughter Rebacah annually during her naturial life and after her death the above Seven Hundred Dollars to be equally divided among the heirs of her body. Item I give to my Son Elijah Seventeen Hundred and Fifty Dollars Item I give to my daughter Sarah One Thousand Dollars and one bed and bedding. Item I give to my Son Joseph Seventeen Hundred and Fifty Dollars. Item I give to my Son David Seventeen Hundred and Fifty Dollars. Item I give to my Son Caleb Seventeen Hundred and Fifty Dollars to be paid to him on his arriving at Twenty One years of age and not before. But I will and direct these Legesit to be but to interest on good security and the Interest to be paid him yearly should he want it for schooling, clothing or sickness but in case he should come to actual want and be unable to maintain himself then and in that case he shall have a rite to so much of Interest and Principal as will render him comfortable. Item I give to Amelia Hunt One Hundred dollars. Item I desire my Executors hereafter to be named to sell and dispose of all my Estate Real and Personal as soon after my death as they may think proper or convenient. Item I desire that One Hundred and Fifty Dollars should be paid to my beloved Wife Levina for her support until her interest should become due. Item after the Intire Settlement of my Estate should there be a surplus (?) it is my will the (?) balance? Should be equally divided among my Heirs. Item After the death of said Wife I require that a division be made of the Twenty Five Hundred Dollars equally among my Children. Item I will and direct that whatever money may fall to my Daughter Rebacah directly or indirectly should be dispursed of in the manner first directed in my bequest to her. Now I do hereby appoint and constitute my beloved Wife Levina, my Son Joseph and Peter Lewis Joint Execution of this my last will and testament ratifying this and no other to be my last will and testament. I hereby wish it to be understood that all abbyatrored (loans?) I may have against my Children at the time of my death shall be considered as part of their Legacy. Stockholm Surrogate of said County John Drake who on oath declared that he did see Elijah Morgan sign and seal the (sum ex eth?) written Instrument purporting to be the will of the said Elijah Morgan bearing date the Twenty first day of September One Thousand Eight Hundred and fourteen, and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament that at the time there of he saw Elijah Morgan was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the depondent and that James Covel, Daniel Williams and this deponnet (cannot read next line) Derrick B. Stockholm Surragate (initials LL) The People og the State of New York by the grace of God,free and independent come or may concern send Greeting Know Ye that at Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County on the Thirtieth day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifteen before Derrick B. Stockholm esquire Surrogate of our said County the last Will and Testament of Elijah Morgan deceased / a copy whereof is here unto annexed / was proved, and is now approved and allowed of by us and the said deceased having whilst he lived and at the time of his death goods chattels and credits within this state by means whereof the proving and registering said will and granting administration of all and singular the said goods, chattels, credits and also the auditing, allowing and final discharging the account thereof doth belong unto us the administration of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased and any way concerning his Wife is granted unto Levina Morgan Executrix, and Joseph Morgan and Peter Lewis the executors in said Will named they being first duly sworn well and faith fully to administrate the same, and to make and exhibit a true and per fact Inventory of all said singular the said goods, chattels and credits and also to render a just and true account there of when these unto required In Testimony where of we have caused the Seal of Office of our said Surrogate to be here unto affixed Witness, Derrick B.
