Lewis Historical Pub. Company, pub. about 1947 (?) Vol. 3 Biographies GEORGE E. BECKER Active in Buffalo business life. George E. Becker is president and a director of the Marine-Midland Group, Inc. Mr. Becker was born June 17, 1885, in Buffalo, New York, son of George J. and Matilda (Mosbach) Becker. Public schools of Buffalo provided George E. Becker's early formal education, and he completed his studies at Masten-Park High School. In 1901 he entered the Marine Bank of Buffalo as a messenger, rising through the different grades of service with that banking institution until he was made president of the Marine-Midland Group in 1929, as well as a member of its board of directors. For some years before taking this office he was vice-president of the Marine Trust Company. In addition to his other business affiliations, Mr. Becker is a director of the Union Trust Company, of Rochester, and of the Dures Plastics Chemical Company, Inc., of Tonawanda. He is also a member of the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce and is widely active in civic and social life. He belongs to the Buffalo Club. In Buffalo, New York. George E. Becker marned Louise Michael, and they became the parents of the following children: 1. Elwood, a graduate of the University of Buffalo. 2. Martha Louise, a graduate of the University of Michigan. 3. Irene Alice, a graduate of the University of Indiana. 4. George G. Becker, Jr. All four were born in Buffalo. There are also two grandchildren, Barbara Ann and Elwood Becker, Jr. The Beckers live in Eggersville.
