Lewis Historical Pub. Company, pub. about 1947 (?) Vol. 3 Biographies EUGENE J. DONNELLY Although still considered one of the younger group of professional men in Buffalo, Eugene J. Donnelly has been engaged in the practice of the law in the city for a decade; is an Assistant United States Attorney, and the head of several organizations. He was born in Buffalo, New York, on August 27, 1908, son of Joseph E. and Agnes (Gurrell) Donnelly, his father, now eighty-two years of age, being a native of Little Meadows, New York, and his mother of Scranton, Pennsylvania. The older man, prior to his retirement, had been associated with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation over a period of sixty-two years, for many years as an official. He also was connected with the South Buffalo Railway Company, and was chairman of the board of the Lackawanna National Bank. Eugene J. Donnelly attended the Holy Angels parochial school, in Buffalo, was prepared for higher education in the Canisius High School, class of 1927, and matriculated at Canisius College, from which he was graduated in 1931, with the degree of Bachelor of Philosophy. For his professional training he entered the University of Buffalo, and received the degree of Bachelor of Laws from its law school in 1934. Admitted to the bar on January 17, 1935, Mr. Donnellly became associated with William Brennan, Jr., in a general practice of the law in Buffalo. In 1942 he was appointed Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of New York, a post he has since filled efficiently and well. With Canisius College he has continued close relations since his undergraduate days. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi fraternity, and is a past president and present member of the board of trustees of this fraternity. Likewise he is a member of the board of governors of the Canisius College Alumni Association, and is a former vice-president of this organization. Mr. Donnelly is affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, and belongs to the Erie County Bar Association, the Lawyers Club of Buffalo, and the Marshall Club. He and his family worship in the Catholic faith as members of St. Vincent's Church. At Buffalo, New York, in August, 1937, Eugene J. Donnelly married Helen Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter D. Fox of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Don- nelly are the parents of three children, all born in Buffalo: 1. Kathleen, born June 7, 1938. 2. Rosemary, born February 10, 1940. 3. James Eugene, born January 7, 1942.
