Drury, Jr., practices his profession in Buffalo, where he is a member of the law firm of Desmond and Drury. Maritime and admiralty cases have occupied a great deal of his attention. Mr. Drury was born September 2. 1908. in Buffalo, New York. son of Captain John E. and Mary (Sullivan) Drury. His father, a native Canadian, was active in the Great Lakes trade, having been a master of lake vessels for most of the time since 1920. John E. Drury, Jr., lost his mother while he was still very young, but was reared by his stepmother, Mrs. Julia G. (Sullivan) Drury. He attended St. Joseph's Parochial School, in Buffalo, his native city, and was graduated from Canisius High School here in 1925. Beginning his college studies at Canisius College, he subsequently transferred to Georgetown University, Washington, District of Columbia, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1929. He then studied at Harvard College, and finished his studies for the law at the University of Buffalo, where he received the Bachelor of Laws degree in 1932. Admitted to the New York State bar in January, 1933, he served a clerkship with the law firm of Gibbons and Pottle from 1930 to January, 1934, so continuing during a large part of his law school days and for a time thereafter. In 1934 Mr. Drury joined with his present partner, Edmond J. Desmond, in the law firm of Desmond and Drury, of which he has been a member down to the time of writing, handling special cases and specializing particularly in admiralty and maritime law, as indicated above. He also is engaged in a broad general practice, covering some cases of almost all branches of the law. A Democrat in politics, Mr. Drury is a member of the Lawyers' Club, the Marshall Club and the Erie County Bar Association. He belongs to the Sigma Phi Delta society and the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He is a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Cathedral Parish. Swimming and boating are among his favorite spare-time recreations. John E. Drury, Jr., married, in May, 1940, in Buffalo, New York, Virginia Schwartz, born in this city. daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Reedy) Schwartz. of Buffalo, New York. They became the parents of the following children: 1. Timothy J., born in 1941. 2. John E., 3d, born in 1943. 3. Kathleen Ann, born in 1945. The Drurys live at No. 128 Lexington Avenue, Buffalo. Mr. Drury has offices in the Liberty Bank Building, this city.
