Woodcock Grosvenor Library 870 Lafayette Ave. "WHEREAS, our ancestors, passengers on the 'Mayflower' landed in 1620 on Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts and WHEREAS, They came to settle in a new land and to found a new home and government for the benefit of themselves and their posterity, and WHEREAS, After struggles and hardships, which in the first year after their landing carried off one - half of their number and necessitated years of continued bravery and fortitude against innumerable trials of the severest kind, and WHEREAS, Their acts and example have been instrumental in the establishment of civil and religious liberty throughout this land, Therefore, this Society is formed by lineal descendants of that band of Pilgrims, to preserve their memory, their records, their history, and all facts relating to them, their ancestors and their posterity." "Every lineal descendant, over eighteen years of age, of any passenger of the voyage of the 'Mayflower' which terminated at Plymouth, Massachusetts, December, 1620, including all signers of the 'The Compact' shall be eligible to membership. They must be proposed, seconded and elected. They shall pat the initiation fee and dues, and comply with the conditions in the Constitution and By - Laws" BY - LAWS ARTICLE I The name of this association shall be the Buffalo Association of the Society of Mayflower Descendants ARTICLE II The objects of this association shall be to advance the interests and principles of the Society of Mayflower Descendants and to promote social intercourse among its members. ARTICLE III Any member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants shall be eligible to membership in this Association. ARTICLE IV The Annual meeting of the Association shall be held as near the 21st day of December in each year, as possible. ARTICLE V At the Annual meeting, a president, Vice - President, Secretary and Treasurer, the two last to be combined, shall be elected to serve for the ensuring year, and until their successors are elected, these three officers to constitute an Executive Committee of the Society. The officers thus elected shall perform the usual duties pertaining to their offices. ARTICLE VI Special meetings of the Association may be called at any time by the President, or in his absence by the Vice - President, and shall called by him at any time at the request of three members. ARTICLE VII These By - Laws may be amended at any annual meetings, or at a special meeting called for that purpose. The annual dues shall be $1.00 for each fiscal year. ************************************************************************ The following is a invitation dated: 15 Dec 1903 Buffalo Association of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. The third annual meeting of the Buffalo Association of the Society of Mayflower Descendants will be held at eight o'clock on Saturday evening, December nineteenth, nineteen hundred and three, in celebration of the anniversary of the landing of the pilgrims.Mrs. Wm. Caryl Ely will entertain the association and its guests, at her residence, number six hundred and twenty - eight Delaware Avenue. Mrs. Ester C. Davenport will deliver an address on "Priscilla" The Puritan Maiden. Members may invite one guest each to accompany them, and all who are invited are requested to notify Mrs. Ely promptly of their acceptance.
