In case the culprits are captured an example will be made of them. B.F.Trescott, the well-known Pavilion fruit grower, brought a few large loads of fruit to Batavia Thursday and turned them into cash. He had $200 in his pockets when he started to drive home, just after dark. In the lonely spot of road, which makes a sharp turn between Batavia and Bethany, Mr. Trescott heard a whistle. It was a signal. Simultaneously two men jumped in front of his team, taking them by the bits. There is no doubt but that Mr. Trescott would have been compelled to accept their invitation to "disgorge" were it not for the fact that at this opportune moment two rigs, being rapidly driven, loomed up over the hills which Mr. Trescott had just descended. With a curse the highwaymen released their hold of the horses, vaulted the fence and disappeared in the gloom. The other timely travelers saw the men depart, but no attempt was made to follow them. The police were then notified. _______________
