C A BUSH KILLS SNAKES, ERIE COUNTY, NEW YORK Copyright(c) 2002 by Margaret Logan-Behrns http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm ******************************************************** SOURCE: BUFFALO EVENING NEWS - VOL. XXXIV - NO. 145 - September 27, 1897 TWENTY EIGHT KILLED BY GIRL At her home, near Pilgrim's Rest, last Thursday, Miss. C.A. Bush, bucket in hand, started for water. On the way she came in contact with a huge copperhead snake. Being a practical minded young woman she seized a club and speedily dispatched the reptile. It measured 6 inches in circumference and 5 feet 4 inches in length. Suspecting the presence of others, after a brief search, she discovered a den of 27 young copperheads. These were from 13 to 15 inches long. They met the fate of the first, making in all 28 reptiles less. Our informant failed to say whether the heroine secured the water or not after the battle. ____________
