POSTMORTEM WAS HELD Medical Examiner Danser Gives Causes of Franklin Licht’s Death as Gunshot Wound and Homicide as Contributory Cause—Inquest Saturday. Upon a warrant sworn out before City Judge C. J. Knoell this morning by Patrolman John Alarie, young Eberfeld was charged with murder first degree, and was committed to the Erie county jail to await further developments. When Arthur Eberfeld, the 13-year-old son of August Eberfeld of No. 10 Cleveland avenue, is arraigned for killing Franklin Licht, the 16-year-old son of Herman Licht of No. 57 South Niagara street, the charge will undoubtedly be murder, first degree. However, this serious charge is not likely to be pressed against the lad who fired the shot from his rifle on Filmore avenue Monday afternoon and inflicted the bullet wound in young Licht’s neck, resulting in the latter boy’s death at 3 o’clock yesterday morning. Assistant District Attorney Roberts of Buffalo has merely recommended that this charge be preferred by Chief of Police Arthur F. Ellicott in arraigning the boy before City Judge Charles J. Knoell so that young Eberfeld may be committed to jail to await the findings of Medical Examiner Earl G. Danser of Erie County. Dr. Danser’s decision will determine the course which the district attorney’s office will pursue in the matter. It has been suggested that an examination be held before Judge Knoell in Tonawanda Saturday. The medical examiner has expressed his willingness to conduct the examination at that time, if the other persons required to appear are able to attend then. Dr. Danser and Assistant Medical Examiner George B. Stocker of Buffalo conducted an autopsy at the undertaking rooms of C. J. Miller & Sons on Main street yesterday afternoon. The bullet was found to have passed into the trachea, from where Dr. Danser believes it was ejected by the violent hemorrhages which resulted from the jugular vein being severed. A gunshot wound in the neck was given as the cause of death and the contributory cause, homicide. The Tonawanda Board of Public Works in session on Monday night adopted the following resolution: “Wheres a serious accident has befallen Franklin Licht, son of Herman Licht, a member of this board and, Whereas, the board sympathizes with Herman Licht and his family in their bereavement, therefore, out of consideration and respect to said Herman Licht, Be It Resolved, that this board adjourn to Monday night, April 24 at 8 o’clock.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ny/erie/newspapers/murderin54gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/nyfiles/ File size: 3.1 Kb
