She was a avid doll maker and enjoyed sending them to children in need locally and in Papua, New Guinea. She always had a special place in her heart and offered a helping hand to anyone in need. Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Carol Abraham Shuey (Greg), Macungie, PA, Dr. Jeanette Marie Abraham (Gabriel Ticho), Wausau, WI, Ramona Abraham Remsen (Thomas), Jacksonville, FL and Renee Abraham, Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Jeanne Schwertfeger, one brother, Richard Schwertfeger; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Honey. Sophie was employed with the Mele Manufacturing Co. in Utica until her retirement in 1978 and formerly employed by F.N. Burts Co. in Buffalo. She was a member of St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro, NY, the New York Mills Seniors, the Whitesboro Seniors and the Highlanders. Her survivors include her two sons, Edmund Szpaicher of Whitesboro and Donald (Jacqueline) Szpaicher of Tonawanda, NY; a sister, Mary Rochna of Texas; two stepsisters, Ida Hermanson and Helen Buchina, both of West Seneca and a stepbrother, Edward (Marie) Holewinski of West Seneca; also included are her six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
