She was born in Syracuse, NY and graduated from Syracuse University. She was married in 1953 to Harold Rosenbaum, the father of her children. Dorothy was awarded her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology by the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1964 and was in hospital and private practice in Buffalo, NY until 1974 and then in southern California until 1993.
