Binger, Diane (Nelson) March 23, 2005, age 54, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a nine year battle with colon cancer, formerly of Amherst. Born in Buffalo, Dianne graduated from Amherst High School in 1968 and Cornell University in 1972. She spent her summers at the Buffalo Canoe Club in Bay Beach, Canada, where she became an accomplished sailor and competed internationally in the Lightning World Championships in Finland. In 1972, Dianne moved to Alta, Utah and began a career in the hospitality industry. She spent nine years with Sheraton Hotels, before she joined the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau ad Director of Convention in 1987. She was promoted to vice president of convention sales in 1993, and was named senior vice president in 1998. In August 2001, Dianne was named in President and Chief Executive Officer of the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau. She played an instrumental role in the 2002 Winter Olympics that were held in Salt Lake City and she was recently named as one of Utah's Top Thirty Women. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, William Binger, two sons; Christopher and Jonathan; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. John F. Nelson of Williamsville, NY; three sisters, Susan Anderson of Albuquerque, NM; Sally Stebbins of Bedford, NH; and Karen Harrison of Darien Center.
