She was born in Muzzaffarnagar, India in 1938, and graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh before attending Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal. She emigrated to Karachi, Pakistan in 1962, practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Karachi and Lahore before coming to the United States in 1971. After a brief stay in Cincinnati, Ohio, she settled in Buffalo in 1972, continuing to visit Pakistan annually and remaining devoted to it culture. She was married twice, to Mohammed Kamal Pasha from 1959 to 1967, and to Dr. Syed Tasnim Raza from 1971 to 1996. She survived the death of her beloved son Farooq in 1992. For 23 years she cared for indigent patients at Buffalo's East Side Health Clinic, choosing to help those in need over private practice. A lifelong aesthete, she herself designed her ultra-modern house and much admired garden. A lover of the arts, she patronized many cultural institutions in Buffalo and New York City.
