Died peacefully on February 21, 2005 at his home in Los Angeles, California
shortly after his 88th birthday. Beloved husband of Adrien; loving father of
Tom and Jane, and their mother Edna; joyful grandfather of Madeline, Grant,
Tom and Adam. He is also survived by his dear brother Dr. David Lazarus and
his wife Betty, favorite nieces and nephews, and daughter-in-law Tammis
Lazarus and son-in-law Dr. Peter Lund. el,2 Maury's retirement in 1990
followed a distinguished and illustrious career as an OB/GYN at Cedars of
Lebanon and Cedars-Sinai Hospitals in Los Angeles. His practice of over 45
years included more than 22 years of clinic service, teaching, authoring
papers on gynecology and infertility, and performing the first amniocentesis
in the state. As Chief of the Department of OB/GYN at Cedars, he specialized
in infertility and oncology making his the foremost private practice in his
field. His devotion to medicine extended to the World Health Organization and
Planned Parenthood where his liberal beliefs on birth control were not always
well received. el,2 Reluctantly, he spoke of his WWII military service where
as Captain of the Army's 79th Infantry Division he served as surgeon
throughout the European campaign. His numerous military honors included: The
Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster,
Combat Medical Badge, Distinguished Unit Badge, Victory Medal, European
Theatre Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, and Meritorious Unit Service Plaque.
el,2 A private family service will be held in celebration of his life.

was a heartfelt supporter. el,2 He will be remembered for his strength of
character, marvelous sense of humor, relentless zest for life, and continued

Of Durham, NC. Mrs. Alice L. Zuzel, 80, died early Thursday at Hillcrest
Convalescent Center. Mrs. Zuzel was born in Parson, PA, the daughter of the
late Angela and Joseph Tomczak. She had been a resident of Durham for the past
two years. Mrs. Zuzel was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Mrs. Zuzel
is survived by her husband of 59 years, Matthew Peter Zuzel; daughters, Diane
Niedbalski and husband, Paul, of St. Albans, WV, Patricia Gentile and husband,
Jim, of Memphis, TN and Theresa Williams and husband, James, of Durham;
sister, Esther Pechulis of Buffalo, NY; and grandchildren, Paul Niedbalski,
Jr., Janine Estep, Steven Niedbalski, Allison Wilson, Angie Stubblefield,
Jeffrey Gentile, James A. Williams, Jr. and Joshua Williams; and three
great-grandchildren, Megan Estep, Michael Estep and Jacob Sloan. A Funeral
Mass will be held Monday 11 AM in St. Matthew Catholic Church with Father John
