Berry, William C. (Bill, Billy) Age 69, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2005. He spent his youth in North Tonawanda and Rochester, NY. He retired as MSGT with twenty-five years in the USAF to Rome, NY, and most recently of Ashburnham, MA. His service to his country included the Korean and Vietnam wars. He volunteered for various youth organizations and was an avid athlete. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of forty-eight years, Gail Shelton Berry, formerly of Kenmore, NY; his five children, Joseph, Barbara, Jennie Mae, Daniel, and Tina and their families, including eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and man's best friends Molli Kate and Billy Bob. July 2005, Age 84, born in Lackawanna, NY, son of the late Nathan E. and late Louise M. (Bagg) Kelly; husband of the late Clarice L. Mr. Kelly was a WWII veteran and volunteer fireman in East Rochester, NY and Shortsville, NY. He installed fire protection sprinkler systems for most of his working years with Grinnell Corp. in Rochester, NY and was a member of the National Automatic Sprinkler Industry Local Union #669 for over 50 years. He retired in 1978 to Valrico, FL, where they resided until 1992 when they moved to Merritt Island, FL. He has been under the loving care of hospice since August 2004 due to Alzheimer's. He spent his final days at the Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay where he died peacefully and awoke just before taking his final breath and smiled at Candy and those awaiting his arrival. Passed away peacefully in his sleep early Tuesday morning, July 19, 2005. He was born on July 24, 1919 in Ogdensburg, NY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, and daughter, Betsy. He is survived by his son, David Levin and David's wife, Sandy Murdock, and his daughter, Rachel Levin. He has many loving grandchildren: Shane Thompson and his wife Jennifer, Anna, Nick, Peter, and Abby Levin, and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Dakota Thompson. Bob and Kay raised their children in Evanston, Illinois, and then moved to a farm in Cleveland, Wisconsin. Bob moved to Albuquerque in October, 1991, two years after his wife's death, and has been active in New Mexico civic life since then. He joined the board of the Explora Science Center and in 1996 chaired the New Vision board, the board that successfully merged the Albuquerque Children's Museum and Explora. He was Founding Chairman of the Walking Stick Foundation, a joint Native American/Jewish spiritual retreat center in the wilderness eight miles from Cuba, NM. He was on the boards of Jewish Family Services, Hillel at the University of New Mexico, and the Advisory Board of Seed University. He was a founding member of the Arab-Jewish Peace Alliance of New Mexico. He was a member of Congregation Nahalot Shalom where he served on the board for one term and was a key member of the committee that raised the money to buy a building for the congregation. Before moving to New Mexico, he had been program planning director of the National CIO Community Services Committee, education director of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America; president of Community Programs Inc., a consulting firm for not-for-profit institutions and community organizations; and Associate Executive Director of the Welfare Council of Metropolitan Chicago. In 1950 he was appointed by the United States State Department to an international committee to advise UNESCO in the designing of a program to reestablish democratic adult education in Germany and Austria. He also received a Senior Fulbright Fellowship at Oxford University to study adult education in England. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was chairman of the board of three foundations: The Akbar Fund of New York, which made grants only to Native American controlled projects; the Esopus Foundation, a family foundation; and the Inner City Fund of Chicago. A 1942 graduate of Antioch College, he later served on its board for 21 years and is now Trustee Emeritus. He, with his wife, Kay, served as Acting President in 1975 during an administrative and financial crisis. In 1979 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws. Bob's journey through the end of life process was greatly assisted by many people, especially his large family and friends in the Jewish community and the Presbyterian Hospice Group, and the family thanks them all. Feldt and the late Gunhild Werrick and Gordon Feldt; also many nieces and nephews. There will be no prior visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at North Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Forest Rd. in Williamsville, Sunday July 24th at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow in the church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Presbyterian Church, American Cancer Society or to Longview Home for Children.
