Cope, 86, fondly known as 'Gar' passed away peacefully at home in Niceville, FL. on July 19, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna A.M. Ellis Cope. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Cope and Louis A. D'Agostino of Niceville, FL.; his grandson, Geoffrey L. D'Agostino of Niceville, FL.; his sisters Muriel Bradford and Mabel Ford (John) of Vancouver, B.C. Canada; his sister Connie Garrod (Ernie) of Toronto, Ont. Canada and six nieces and nephews. He was born in Wolverhampton, England on July 24, 1918 to the late Kate and Frank Cope. He lived in Williamsville, NY for over 40 years before moving to Niceville. In his youth, he was an accomplished trick diver and water polo player, and paced an Olympic swimmer. An avid golfer, in the 1980's he realized his dream and played Gleneagles, Muirfield and St. Andrews. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and member and past president of the Amherst, NY Kiwanis Club. He was a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and served on their History and Heritage Committee, Buffalo section. He had over 100 U.S. and international patents. His railroad couplers were used on the Wash D.C., N.Y. and Boston High-speed AMTRAK Metroliner and are still in used today by the Toronto Transit Commission. He proudly served for over six years in the British Royal Navy in WWII. A memorial service will be held on July 28, 2005 at 4 PM at St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Niceville, FL. His final resting place will be at Calvary Episcopal Church in Williamsville, NY where he was a lifelong member. A memorial service will be held there a later date. (Albion) Age 72, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2005 at his home on West Lee Road in Barre. Born in Albion, New York on July 11, 1933, he was the son of Henry G. and Celia Donovan Keeler. He was a life long resident of the area. Mr. Keeler graduated from Albion High School, class of 1951. He served in the US Army following his graduation with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, class of 1955. He also received a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from SUNY Brockport, where he served as chairman of the College Council. In addition, he completed advance course work in industrial and labor relations at Cornell University. Mr. Keeler was Chairman of the Board of Keeler Construction Company a heavy and highway contracting firm. Formed by his mother and late father in 1942, Keeler Construction Company completed work on a number of western New York highway and bridge projects as well as public parks, airports and industrial sites. He was also Chairman of the Board of Barre Stone Products, established in 1987. He oversaw the production of quality crushed stone and blacktop, products that are utilized in numerous projects in western New York. Mr. Keeler was active in a number of industry-related organizations. He served as past president of Associated General Contractors of America, NY State Chapter, as a trustee of the Operating Engineers Joint Benefit Fund, and as a member of the American Arbitration Association, serving as an arbitrator. Mr. Keeler was active in a number of community and business organizations, serving as a member and past-president of the Albion Central School District Board of Education, chairman of the Town of Barre Planning Board, member of the Orleans County Planning Board, and past Chairman of the Board for Albion Federal Savings and Loan. Predeceased by his son, Paul James Keeler, Mr. Keeler is survived by his mother, Celia Donovan Keeler and his devoted wife of 49 years, Patricia Harvey Keeler. Also surviving are sons Mark (Teri) Keeler and Thomas (Lauri) Keeler of Albion and grandchildren Katherine, Christine, James, Matthew, Emily, Michael and Kimberly Keeler. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Arnold) Kuhn of Albion and his aunt, Elizabeth Donovan of Albion and his uncle Lynn Keeler of Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
