Continelli, Basil M. Age 84, of Latham, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Buffalo, NY in 1921. In the 1930's, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and was assigned to a camp in California. He joined the Navy during World War II and proudly served for six years as a Pharmacist's Mate. Towards the end of the war, he briefly served under John F. Kennedy. After the war, he worked for the VA in Buffalo as a Technician, then went to the University of Buffalo where he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1953. For 15 years, he was the Director of Pharmacy at Children's Hospital in Buffalo. He then became the Director of the Poison Control Center of WNY serving in that position for five years. He was instrumental in introducing 'Mr. Yuk' to New York State. 'Mr. Yuk' was a green sticker used by parents to warn children about poison. From 1974 until his retirement in 1992, he was a Senior Narcotic Investigator with the New York State Department of Health in Albany. He was also an E.M.T. and a Deputy Sheriff with the Erie County Underwater Division. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #7411 in Latham. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a great innovator and visionary, with a scientific, analytical mind. He also had a brilliant, biting, sarcastic wit that constantly entertained his family. He loved his dogs and his garden. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Tomasula Continelli, who he married on October 7, 1950. He is also survived by his four children, William Continelli and his wife, Nancy of Rensselaer, Bernard Continelli and his wife, Allison of Rensselaer, Tracey Continelli of Rensselaer and Annie Continelli and her husband, Kyle Fahrbach of Boston, MA. He is also survived by a sister, Mildred Campbell of Buffalo and a brother, James Continelli of Buffalo and two grandchildren, Lori and Jessica Continelli and a beloved niece, Michelle Martin of Buffalo.
