Of Hudson, Ohio, died April 27, 2005 at the Laurel Lake Retirement Community's Crown Center. Born in Buffalo, NY September 22, 1910, he graduated from Union High School in East Aurora, NY with an award for 10 school years without tardiness or absence. He received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY and was employed by Bethlehem Steel Corp for his entire career, retiring in 1975 as the Superintendent of the Electrical Department at the Lackawanna, NY plant. He was a licensed Professional Engineer, a member of Sigma Xi (Scientific Research Society), Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Honor Society), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary Club and a member of various conservation organizations, including Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, FL, where he and his wife of 65 years, Sara F. (Young) who preceded him in death, received Crystal Bell Awards for 1000 hours each of service. While living in Lake Wales, he was also a volunteer for several charitable organizations and an avid golfer. He was a slide photographer and he and his wife did many slide presentations on their travels. Mr. Zittel leaves daughters Dorothy (Thomas) Lennox of Mentor, OH, and Sara F.
