Age 59, entered into rest May 20, 2005 at the New York State Veterans Home, Batavia, NY, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis; son of the late Frederick and Constance (Bolton) Winger; loving father of Jodi (Scott) Walen of Londonderry, NH; dearest grandfather of Lea and Shannon; brother of Jean Bernecky of Williamsville, NY and the late Bruce Winger; also survived by nieces and nephews. Doug was a native of Clarence, NY, graduating from Clarence High School in 1965, he moved to Georgia in the 1980's. Doug leaves many dear friends in Georgia where he lived for 20 plus years prior to coming to the VA Home in Batavia last May. In his earlier years Doug loved hunting, fishing, golf, snowmobiling, photography and trap shooting. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965 to 1967. Doug was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America in Augusta, GA and the Georgia Handicapped Sportsman Club. There are no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday evening, May 26, at 7 PM in the First Baptist Church, 122 Main St., Akron, NY. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
