A graduate of North Collins High School, he studied watchmaking and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was trained at USNTS in Great Lakes, IL, at NATTC in Memphis, TN, The Naval Air Gunnery School in Hollywood, FL and Special Task Air Group No. 2 NAS in Lake City, FL. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, receiving The Victory Medal, American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific and The Good Conduct Medal. At the end of sea duty, he returned to shore duty at the Naval Air Station in Fort Worth, where he met his beloved wife of 60 years, a fellow New York native, Elinore Clawitter. During his years of residency here, he was a faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church and The Davis Lambright Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was an estimator and technical writer at Bell Helicopter and a trained watchmaker.
