FELL TO DEATH 
Breaking of a Cable lets Three People Go to the Bottom of a Shaft 

CHICAGO, Sept.27 - By the breaking of a cable this morning three colored men, who were being
carried up in an elevator shaft of the Northwest Land Tunnel, fell 95 feet to the bottom of the
excavation.  One of them, Charles Wilson, was killed instantly. 

The injured were: Richard White, injured internally 
William Hopkins, three ribs broken and skull fractured.
