Spittler, Sr. (great-grandson) Photo can be seen at: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ny/erie/photos/johnevac7731gph.jpg Image file size: 39.7 Kb The John and Eva Catarina Lang Metz family (with 9 children) came to the US from Blakenloch, Germany in 1832 and settled in Eden, NY, 1st in a log cabin and then in a house they built on Shadagee Rd. in 1840, which was occupied by Metz descendants until 1997. John Metz (1789 – 1858) and his wife Catarina (1793 – 1859) were devoted to the worship and service of God and often held religious services in German in their home. The story passed down in the Metz family is that Eva Catarina was the daughter of an American Indian girl taken back to Germany as a servant. No birth ecord can be found for Magdalene Jacobine Feigler Lang in Germany, which lends credence to this story.
