He had been in failing health two years and confined to his bed two weeks. Mr. Shirley was born in County Wexford, Ireland, on March 16, 1839, and at the age of five years his parents moved to Canada and ten years later to Pavilion. Mr. Shirley became a resident of Le Roy, where he spent the remainder of his life, fifty years ago. He had always been a farmer. He was a member of St. Peter's church. His wife formerly was Miss Mary Moore of Pavilion. The were married on December 25, 1865. Surviving Mr. Shirley are his wife and ten children, Joseph and Charles Shirley, Mrs. Frank Rider and Misses Nellie, Genevieve and Emma Shirley, all of Le Roy; John Shirley of Buffalo, Matthew Shirley, Jr. of Texas, Mrs. Henry Powers of Batavia and Mrs. W. E. Palmer of Rochester. The funeral will be held from St. Peter's church at 9 o'clock on Friday morning and the burial will be in St. Francis's cemetery.
