His earlier years were passed upon a farm, and when about sixteen years of age he learned the photographic business, a business he has since carried on. He, after becoming a skilled artist, traveled for some time and located eventually about thirty-three years ago in Little Falls where he now conducts the leading art studio. He was appointed deputy sheriff under Valentine Brown in 1884 and served under him for three years and in 1892, January 1, he was again appointed deputy sheriff under Sylvester Wilson of Herkimer. He as also been foreman of one of the local fire companies. He married Miss Nancy E. Dygert of Little Falls, and has three children: Two sons and one daughter. Sheriff Abbott is thoroughly identified with local, social and benevolent institutions and has been just at present writing appointed excise commissioner.
