He was a blacksmith's son, and learned the trade of blacksmith. After two years spent in the armory at Springfield he came in 1863 to Ilion and has been in the armory ever since, being now one of the contractors. He is a Mason, and has served on the Board of Education. In 1856 he married Meriam L. Huntley; they had one son, W. W., jr., who died in his seventeenth year, a promising young man, who had already distinguished himself as a student.
