L., Dolgeville, was born in Ulster county, N.Y., October 14, 1843. He was reared on a farm, and in 1861 enlisted in the Sixty-fifth N.Y. Infantry, serving throughout the war. He participated in the following battles: Yorktown, Fair Oaks, Turkey Bend, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburgh, Marye's Heights, Gettysburgh, Rappahannock, Mine River, Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Po River, Cold Harbor, Fort Stevens, Cedar Creek, Fort Fisher, Sailor's Creek, besides fourteen other engagements. He was severely wounded at Cedar Creek. At the close of the war he engaged in the millwright's business, since which time he has spent ten years in the service of Alfred Dolge. In February, 1892, he established his present drug and grocery business, in which he has a fine trade. Mr. Carnwright married Eliza Hodge, and they have one son. Mr. Carnwright has been a member of the board of education, which position he resigned.
