His early years were spent on a farm. When eighteen years of age he commenced to drive the state between Darew and Little Falls, which business he continued in for nine years. Then he took the hotel at Salisbury Corners for two years, then the Loomer house at Dolgeville for four years, and in the spring of 1892 assumed charge of the Cottage hotel, Dolgeville. Mr. Cramer, when in Salisbury, filled the position of collector for three years. He married Miss Maggie Kelly. They have no children.
