George W. Smith, of Herkimer, and was admitted to the bar in October, 1880, and began practice in 1881, forming a partnership with A. J. Smith under the name of Devendorf & Smith. Mr. Devendorf was elected district attorney in 1888, and was re elected in 1891. He is proving eminently successful in his office, and as an indication of his fitness and ability, it might be mentioned that almost every indictment during his term has resulted in a conviction. Mr. Devendorf's ancestors have lived in this part since the early settlement of the State, and his great-grandfathers on both sides took part in the Revolutionary War.
