He secured a good education in the schools of that town, and after serving three years in the German army came here in 1879, and entered the employ of Alfred Dolge, to whom he is related. By faithful and thorough service he was rapidly promoted, eventually reaching the position of chief clerk. After remaining with Mr. Dolge for ten years he started a grocery stored in Dolgeville, which as proved a success, and to which he now devotes his entire attention.
