His father came from Rhode Island to Newport when two years old, in 1794. He was a son of George, whose children were: Jeremiah, Harding, Gorton, Seth, George, Lydia, Sallie, and Elsie. Rosell Fenner had one sister, Maria Louisa (deceased). He married on October 15, 1863, Mary Ann, daughter of Henry Bristol. He entered the lumbering business at Forestport in 1850 and after seven years engaged in the livery business at St. Paul, Minn., for seven years. In 1849 he went to California, remaining but fourteen months (in mining interests). He was also in the cigar business at Utica for seven years. He died October 2, 1892. His family are attendants of the Baptist church. Mr. Fenner's father was one of the original owners of the water-power of Newport.
