He followed boating until thirty years of age on the Erie canal, and then began the contracting business on State and railroad work, which he has followed ever since. Mr. Ford is a prominent Mason, a member of the Memphis Shrine, the thirty-second degree, Scottish Rite. In 1852 he married Miss Ann E. Tan Alstine, and they have two daughters, both married.
