Author: Hardin & Willard

Getman, Mahlon, German Flats, was born in Columbia, June 6, 1835, and was 
engaged in farming until 1867, when he embarked in the cheese business and is 
today one of the largest dealers and manufacturers in the county.  He owns 
four factories and manages two others.  The annual export for his own four 
factories averfages abut 400,000 pounds.  Mr. Getman married Sarah A., 
daughter of Erastus Holmes, in 1858, and they have one daughter, Mrs. Truman 
Snell, of Manheim.  Mr. Getman has been president of the village of Mohawk, 
and also held official positions in Columbia.
