W., Fairfield, was born in Fairfield, August 3, 1806, and has been a farmer all his life. His ancestors came from Saybrook, Conn., in 1780, and have resided in these parts ever since. His grandfather was in the Revolutionary war. In 1835 Mr. Griswold went to Newport, and fifteen years ago settled in Middleville. He has taken great interest in public and educational affairs all his life, and is a very intelligent and highly esteemed citizen. He is one of the oldest men in Herkimer county.
