He completed his education at Fairfield Academy and taught school in the towns of Salisbury and Little Falls. In 1851 he commenced the study of law in the office of Loomis & Griswold, and in 1854 he was admitted. He was deputy collector of internal revenue under J. R. Stebbins, United States collector. He held several minor offices. He was a trusted and worthy citizen, and he died suddenly on the 4th of March, 1888, at his residence, leaving his son, James B. Hart and Edward S.
