Herkimer, was born in Norway, N. Y., July 13, 1846. He received his early education in Fairfield Seminary, and praduated from Hamilton College in 1868. He commenced the study of law with Benjamin Franklin, of Penn Yan, N. Y., and continued it, in the office of Robert and Samuel Earl, heing admitted to the bar in 1860. and has, since March, 1872, practiced his profession at Herkimer. He was elected president of the village in 1876, re-elected in 1883, was corporation counsel six years, and was a member of the State Assembly in 1890. and Democratic candidate for State Senator in 1891 for the district embracing Herkimer, Otsego and Madison counties. He is a thirty-second degree Mason and treasurer of the Herkimer Fire Department, president of the D. K. E. chapter of Hamilton College, president of Philo. Society of Fairfield Seminary, and author of the "Village Charter," a work which ran through three editions. He was the poet at the Centennial Celebration of Norway, 1887, and poet at the Philo. reunion at Fairfield, 1834. He married Miss Fannie DuBois, of Norway, August 20, 1874. They have two children. Mr. Henderson's ancestors have been prominent in New York State for over two centuries. They have been legislators, soldiers, and men of affairs; and the name stands high in the annals of the county and State.
