After receiving a common school education he learned the carpenter's trade, at which he worked for twenty-five years. About two years ago he purchased the dry-dock property here, and besides repairing canal boats, builds row boats, and in fact all description of boats. He gives employment to several skilled ship carpenters and supervises the work himself. He married Eliza Aldrich, and they have one adopted daughter. Mr. Herrick's yards are located at Lock 37 on the Erie Canal.
