He was engaged in the lumber business in Stratford for thirty years, after which he was for two years in the same line in Lewis county. In 1883 he came to Dolgeville, where he established his present saw and planing-mills. He does contracting, building, etc., and owns the cheese factory, besides dealing in real estate. He married Miss H. E. Crane, by whom he had five children. Some years after her death he married Marion E. Bliss, by whom he had three children. Mr. Knapp has served as assessor, commissioner of highways, inspector of election, and served on the board of supervisors five terms. Since coming to Dolgeville he has served as inspector of elections twice.
