He was educated in the military schools of that country, and served as an ensign in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. In 1872 he became second lieutenant and was stationed for seven years at Alsace-Lorraine, the provinces taken from France. In 1879 he came to American and has since been engaged in State and private service as civil engineer and surveyor. Mr. Koetteritz married Carrie Brockett, and they have two children: Lena, aged ten years, and Burt aged six. Lieutenant Koetteritz is one of the best informed and scientific civil engineers in the State, and has made the study of the Adirondack region a specialty. His large map of the Adirondacks is used by all the State departments as authority.
