The grandfather was a son of Robert, who came from Scotland to America prior to the Revolution on the Hudson, where he died. Subject's grandfather was born in Scotland, and died December 18, 1842, aged seventy-seven, and was twice married. His first wife bore him one son ; his second wife, Mariam Earl, bore him one son and ten girls. Subject's father was born in Warren January 20, 1799, and died January 30, 1890. He served as deputy sheriff, lived in Stark six years, when he returned in 1843. He owned 150 acres, his father's homestead. He was a Democrat. His wife died in June, 1831. Subject and wife had these children: David W., Mary V., Thurlow W., Charles W. and George S. Subject was born where he lives, and has resided here all his life, except twelve years. He received a limited education, and lived and cared for his parents on the old homestead.
