He was brought up on a farm and worked thereon until in his eighteenth year, when he was apprenticed to the cabinet trade. After completing this trade and working at it for a few years, he commenced to do stove pattern-making, at which he remained successfully for twenty-five years. About two years ago he started his present furniture and undertaking establishment in Dolgeville. Mr. McDougal is of Scotch descent, his great- grandfather settled in Fulton county early in the seventeenth century. His father also lived and died here, and is buried in Stratford. His ancestors participated in the war of 1812. Mr. McDougal is identified with local social and benevolent institutions.
