His grandfather came from Connecticut. Mr. Phillips engages in general farming, but has also a large business in buying and shipping hay. He has been twice married; first in 1857 to Mrs. Mary Jane Carder of Easy Schuyler, Herkimer county, and in 1883 to Miss Permelia Quance of Camden, Oneida county. He was commissioner of highways six years, trustee several terms and deputy sheriff six years.
